Yes, it can be done! I'm not sure if any of you have heard of this story or not, but this man chose to live outdoors for 27 years by himself. I will leave a link to one of the stories, but there are many more out there about this guy.

Maine Hermit - Officers Amazed

I'm not saying I agree with how he survived (he stole), but what I find amazing is that he lived without campfires, etc for 27 years and it's gets c-o-l-d here in Maine, far below zero many nights, so to say that people CAN and DO survive in cold climates is completely believable.

I'm not sure if it's in this article or not, but when asked how he made it through without heat, he replied "lots and lots of sleeping bags". :p

Yeah I dont agree with the way he gathered food and supplies but I was surprised even with that, that he lived so long out there.

That is pretty cool, but I am sure some people would think it would be okay since he is taking things or from the "rich" or at least people richer than him. Still an amazing story.

No idea how he did it, the winters in Maine are so cold, and what about blizzards and stuff? My first reaction would be to dig some deep hole and cover it with stuff, or make igloos.

Throwing him in jail sounds like a waste of tax payer dollars though.

some thing like that i've considered going WAY TO FAR on the extreme side of things..but now a days.if shtf.its not extreme to live like that if you have too n all..

ROFLOL!!

There was another story in the paper today about what he was stealing when they caught him. I just find it amazing that he was able to survive our winters with no fires... unbelievable!

It goes to show that someone who just walked into the woods one day survived... so what about us preppers? ;)

1st. Us preppers. The Media portrays us as Right Wing Extremists. I was watching The Following, it was on DVR, maybe show #6
A hit team is going after the girl. 'Are you guys Ex-Military?' "No, better, Militia". "I prefer the term, CONSTITUTIONAL EXTREMISTS !"

The media will portray Peter Brady... as just liberating goods from the rich.

I know what you mean. Some people just hear the word "prepper" and they think "military".

btw, I had noticed in that article that he also had a back-up plan... (quote from article above)
“We meandered through the woods for approximately 50 minutes before we reached his campsite up on a ridge near Little North Pond,” the trooper wrote.
There, they found a fairly comfortable campsite with a mattress inside his tent, which he said he got by “borrowing” a canoe to bring it across the pond from Pine Tree Camp.
“Knight had a backup plan,” she wrote. “He showed us an area a distance away from the main campsite where he had backup items stored in plastic totes in case he was caught at the main campsite. This way he had enough items to start over.”

He seems to have thought it out fairly well. If not at the beginning, at some point along the way.
