We have several cities where 911 is out. The police are suggesting that people call non emergency line for an emergency. I just uploaded the non emergency number in my phone contacts. I never thought about having that number uploaded before.

We have here in my location Smart911 and text to 911. A lot cities and counties are using these modern systems, ought to check and see if you have this option.

Federal Government has forced emergency responders to move to the new APCO Project 25 (digital) we gone through phase 1 several years ago now we have moved to phase 2, all these updates include the 911 system being updated. Basically making communications uniform across department, states and the feds. Ya, it's not cheap and costing the tax payers millions.

Sometimes I wonder if the benefit is worth the cost. In my lifetime I've used 911 once. Maybe those who use it should pay?

I've never used it, but my mom had to call 911 twice in one day last week for her new husband who was having breathing problems. She wanted them to come check on his vital s.

I've used it way too often.

Not for me, but to get others help.

Just the other day, I used it to report a car on fire, on the bridge, as we drove over. It was just a small fire, under the car, driver may not have even known. It was too dark to tell if someone was in the vehicle.

I'm not about to get myself, my wife, and my truck blown up by a stranger's car. So she quickly called 911. We learned the FHP (Florida Highway Patrol) was already enroute and knew of it.

I've also used it when seeing bad car accidents, where someone is visibly hurt bad or not moving.
