Alaska Railroad or other off the grid shows

I enjoy watching Alaska Railroad, but there is an episode on now and a man admitted it was stupid, but he had picked up his shotgun by the barrel and snagged the safety and now his arm is a stump.

It seems that someone willing to live in such conditions without medical assistance anywhere nearby would be a little more careful.

SIASD (Stupid Is As Stupid Does). I cannot imagine ever picking up my weapon by the barrel, even at the range, with nothing to snag it. Beyond my comprehension.
