Allegedly, they found her body on a deserted island...but nothing conclusive. Both scenarios are equally likely, so who knows? There was also some debris found, but as it was likely a patch done in Miami, it's inconclusive too...but on the SAME island as the purported body. I personally like this narrative better...that she survived.
I'm a little bitter though, as Earhart did her record flight from Canada to Europe, and is a household name due to disappearing, whereas one of my ancestors was the first woman to fly from England to America and is mostly ignored by history...lol. (she was quite the character as I'm told).
