This is an article from last year, found on the Virginia Dept. of Wildlife Resources. K9 Bailey Retires
This dog had a reputation all over Virginia for helping to solve criminal cases, gathering information. What a good girl!
I love black labs. We had a mixed black lab once and she was incredibly smart but when she got older and was starting to hurt she didn't want to let me know and kept her pain hidden. She was a happy dog overall and I never felt afraid with her around. She knew her role.

Our dog got out of the fence and I looked for him for hours.
Couldn't find him anywhere. I even crawled through the Russian olives.
He was not smart enough to keep away from predator's.
Just before dark I took one more drive around looking for him.
I found him about 2 miles away in a farmers yard.
I stopped and he came running as fast as his little short legs would move and jumped into my arms.
That's when I discovered he had walked through the farmers field the has just had wet manure spread over it.
He stunk bad and was wet. My only option was to hold him and dive home.
We both had to take showers.

Our old heeler Chookie was puking yesterday. Couldn't figure it out then, but can now. He got his pudgy self thru the cat door in the garage and ate all their wet food.
It's not a proper cat door, really, just a hole in a door that's really old that the cat's use. Little granddaughter got out the staple gun and put up some cardboard and made the hole smaller. Old Chookie has had the run of the main yard lately, we just close the yard gates. We can't let him wander further because he's almost blind and pretty deaf. He needs to stay out of the cat food.

My favorite dog ever was my Aussie red merle, Ruby. Smartest dog we ever had and the hardest working. In spite of being told repeatedly cleaning the cat box was not her job she did it every chance she got.
