So, I just used the sled to haul eleven cases of B&M Brown Bread (24 cans per case) down the mountain from the 8 X 10 fallback building. The cases were nine or ten years ago purchased. In that unheated cabin the temperature would range from summer high of 85*-90* and winter down to 30* below. I kind'a half expected this brown bread to be pudding/glop. It could not be more perfect.

have been eating this brown bread for 55 years. I am super impressed with the results. Now this was not an intentional experiment. It is just food that was stored there in case I got run out of my current living cabin, by zombies post SHTF. That cabin had at least 6 to 10 months of food stored there for one person.

Amazing!

I have no idea what I paid for it; I think I bought it at SAM'S CLUB, and they closed the only store in Anchorage long-long ago.

Well $50.00 per case of 24 cans would be a fair deal as that includes delivery to wilderness Alaska.
Prices currently? $9 per can and $50 for a case? Does that sound reasonable with 1-2 months to ship by Amazon?

$1.98 a can plain at WalMart?

@Sourdough , I have never heard of that stuff. How do you eat it? Like any other bread and make a sandwich?

i was thinking of getting pilot bread to go with all that delicious red feather cheese and Rubinstein red salmon I’ve put away. I know I had pilot bread as a kid. That B&M stuff might also work for that too. Thoughts on this?

I think that Sam’s club shut down 7-9 years ago.

I love the stuff but in my experience, if you didn't grow up eating it, you won't like it. Every adult I got to try it hated it. I like it with butter but will eat it plain too. When I was a kid we would have it with baked beans and hot dogs. I should pick up some more.

I almost think it hinges on whether one likes molasses or not. Chances are if you like molasses you will like the bread.

It is odd though, my wife will eat brown bread but not a molasses cookie, lol.

I liked it as a kid, today the molasses taste is too strong for me. We would cut both ends from the can and push out the thickness desired, then slice it. Buttered, with a bowl of baked beans, I could still choke a slice down. A slice, buttered, with some eggs was okay as well.

There used to be a recipe for canned cake, at a previous site. Does anyone still have that recipe?

Just added brown bread to my grocery list! I havent had it in years but used to love it toasted with butter, too. The hubby isn't from NE and has never heard of it so its time I introduce him to brown bread!
