Anyone have experience buying and/or selling DOMAIN names

If you are wanting to sell a domain, first step is to make sure you are indeed the registrant. Companies that host websites that you build using their tools often times are the registrant, not you. Even when you've been the one paying the bills for the domain registration. If you're not the registrant, you don't have the authority to sell the domain.

Other than the above, I don't know much about selling domains. A while back an acquaintance was planning to sell his domain, only to find out that he didn't own it. That's the only reason I found out about the above. I personally don't own any domains to have personal experience in this.

The "whois" command tells you who the registrant is. The actual registrant's name is often redacted, but you can probably tell from the non-redacted entries if it is or isn't you.

e.g., here is the registrant info for our forum:

$ whois homesteadingforum.org | grep Registrant
...
Registry Registrant ID: REDACTED FOR PRIVACY
Registrant Name: REDACTED FOR PRIVACY
Registrant Organization: Domains By Proxy, LLC
Registrant Street: REDACTED FOR PRIVACY
