I read this a year or two ago and like it, although it was a bit horrifying! After reading it, I got another book about the science & technology of EMPs.

I also heard there was a sequel to the book. Anyone read both?

It's a realistic summary of what could happen. Also look up the books "Lights out". 2 books by same name, I think dan rather wrote one, the other was written about 15 years ago. I liked the older.

It is a worst-case scenario. An EMP that is, the books just reflect typical scenarios if it did happen.

Yes. I read One Second After, One Year After and just finished reading The Final Day. All good reads. I'm now reading Pillar To The Sky by the same author. Not as good as his other books in my opinion. I'm having to force my way through it.

The first book was outstanding, the rest ok. Right after reading it I had to go up to Asheville on business and saw a lot of the places talked about in the book. He was a professor at the school there and I even got to have a long conversation with a guy that knew him well. It was cool to get to learn more about the area and author. One of the guys I work with occasionally actually took one of his classes while in college there too. He wasn’t impressed though and doesn’t see the need for prepping....

I tried to read One Second After twice --- great beginning, of course: with no fanfare, everything just quietly stops. But it got violent and political quickly in a way I didn't like. I HAVE One Year After and plan to try that, see if I can get into it more.

Maybe I'll check out the sequel(s) if I get some time. It sounds like I probably won't be blown away by them like I was the original.
