A laundry detergent is a mixture of varying chemical compounds including benzene components. laundry detergent is less affected by water and it distinguishes them from other chemical cleaners. Hand soap and other types of cleaning chemicals come under the broad category of laundry detergent products. As you are well aware, most laundry detergents are supplied in the form of a powder. Ashes, silicates, and charcoal are considered as the earlier predecessors of laundry detergents. There have been mentions about a mixture of ashes and silicates used for cleaning in ancient Egyptian culture. Synthetic chemical substances form a major part of modern day soaps and other laundry products. Nowadays soap has been replaced by other laundry chemical compounds.

Major disadvantage of soap is its sensitivity to hard water deactivation chemical process. Laundry detergents are made of specialty chemicals like alkyl sulfonates and olefin sulfonates. According to principles of modern chemistry, laundry detergents are often classified based on charge of the molecule. Polar component in laundry detergent allows it to dissolve in water whereas non polar portion dissolute greasy materials. Builders, bleach, enzymes and cellulose are other components of laundry detergents. Laundry detergents with the presence of surfactants are expected to function better than traditional ones. Surfactants of conventional laundry detergents are normally suspended in water. Making home made laundry detergent products is easy, inexpensive and effective for regular washing. Fabric softener, dish wash detergent and dish soap can be made in home. Laundry detergents offer a superb cleaning experience in all respects and you can feel softness after its usage.

-Fill a 5 gallon bucket half full of hot tap water. Add melted soap, washing soda and Borax. Stir well until all powder is dissolved. Fill bucket to top with more hot water. Stir, cover and let sit overnight to thicken.
-Stir and fill a used, clean, laundry soap dispenser half full with soap and then fill rest of way with water. Shake before each use. (will gel)
-Optional: You can add 10-15 drops of essential oil per 2 gallons. Add once soap has cooled. Ideas: lavender, rosemary, tea tree oil.
-Yield: Liquid soap recipe makes 10 gallons.
-Top Load Machine- 5/8 Cup per load (Approx. 180 loads)

Welcome Kinert! Unless I can find laundry detergent dirt cheap, I'll be making my own.

Thanks realistic. Personally I like the liquid, but my boss prefers the powdered. Just can't beat 17 cents a load!
