You have to be in good shape to work like you do @Pearl,

I am in terrible shape these days still got the arm strength, but the back is soft and the leg muscles are stiffer.

I Know these words well (USED TO) pick up two crossties and carry them for a ribbon of rail
pick up a full keg of railroad bolts and load them head high on the back of a truck.
Pick up most refrigerators and carry them in the house.

Now carrying two 5 gallon buckets of hydrauilc oil or two 6 gallon cans of gas 150 feet will make me have to stop, rest and catch my breath.

Most of the year I would have answered no. I am pretty committed to being in shape. But after being gluttonous all weekend I will admit my workout this morning was more of a chore than normal.

Looks more like starvation than "in shape" to me.

Reminds me of when we had this traveling display at our museum:

I'm round, and round is a shape. I don't run anywhere anymore. I just waddle quickly. Anytime I think about working out I lay down and take a nap, and the feeling goes away. 😩

When I go outside and it is nearly 100° - I feel out of shape.
When I get off work after lifting things and walking around a lot - I feel out of shape. (I might not be getting enough sleep).
When I go to a state park and keep hiking for a few hours - I feel out of shape. (Hydrate!)
When I mow the yard early enough in the day, I'm good to go.
When I take the dog for a walk, I feel good.
Cardiologist says I am good to go, weight is perfect, yes!

For me it happened when I turned 60. The other milestone birthdays (30,40,50) I didn't notice any significant decline. When I turned 60 there was preipitous decline in my physical abilities. Now I am getting the same message as Dave. My body is saying "You shouldn't be doing this anymore."

Some of the forum members have already seen this picture , but for those that have not - This is the exercise cabin that I built a few months ago . It is used almost daily . Inside is bar bells , Dum bells , a couple of sets of pull up rings that are suspended from a beam and lots of other exercise stuff . Admidetly it is mostly my grandson that utilizes the cabin . There ain't no out of shape men on my survival grounds , including myself . Most here are in better shape than the in-service military guys . When S.H.T.F. we intend to be in the best physical shape to confront whomever presents themselves as an adversary . -- For those into survival note the cistern system on the left side of the cabin . The cistern system is piped in to gravity feed water to be able to water the garden and chickens and actually to my house but hope to not have to drink from the cistern system .

I get enough exercise lifting heavy bags of compost, sand and stone in my ordinary day to day life.
I am now 76 and i'm in better physical and medical condition than a lot of people I see 20 and 25 years younger, this country has an obesity crisis and many people arent just overweight they are enormous, they dont walk they waddle.
