Wow. I was talking to someone who lives there yesterday.

Keep in mind, Austin is the liberal capital of TX. California transplants have been transforming it for decades and it shows.

Homeless are everywhere. Crime is rampant, from theft to murders. The city has a "Homeless Strategy Officer" job! Even with the city 'growing', the schools are down 10% in # of students the past few years and they're talking about closing up to 10 schools. They are even offering 'free vouchers' to any children from the area to go to Austin schools, the parents just need to drive them into town. Rent for the cheapest 3 bedroom apartments is $2,000/month with zero amenities or utilities.

Yet their top worries are having drag queen library children's readings. Traffic is getting more like LA yet their 'solutions' are to offer train/bus routes even after voters reject it repeatedly. The 'average' house sells for $430k and property taxes are $10k.

Warning... this poison is spreading to a town near you (and me...)

My daughter lived in Austin briefly and those people are as wacky as the fruits and nuts in Kommifornia.

In Austin, it's illegal for stores to give bags to the customers. Not knowing this, I went shopping and ended up carrying several wine bottles tucked under my arm across the parking lot to my car. Here stores have to put glass bottles in bags for safety.

The traffic downtown on I-35 is so bad, the only time it's not a parking lot is 3am. When they talked about doing something about it, they decided not to because they wanted to "keep Austin weird." They pride themselves on weirdness to the point of being proud of a perpetual traffic jam! "Keep Austin Weird" is the official slogan of the Austin Independent Business Alliance.

When Texas started a White House petition to secede from the United States, Austin started a petition to secede from Texas.

Austin has one redeeming feature - Salt Lick Barbecue. Technically it's not IN Austin but out of town, so there's that...

Salt Lick is a TEXAS Sized barbecue place. They serve nearly 2,000 customers per day on average!

In my neighborhood a 1400sq ft A Frame 3 bed 2 bath $600,000.00 a Tiny house 440sqft $248,000.00 I have an adjoining lot .120 acre I've been offered 100k for, as the crow flies less then a mile a way are what we call the "Projects" government assisted housing, and crime is through the roof as can be expected, not at all the place I grew up. Liberals have taken over and the people like my self are moving out. Just going to get worse.

I will admit, the best BBQ I have ever eating was in Texas. I was just passing through and don't remember the name of the place.

Well, that's a given! I'm no cook, but I've got a BIL who can put his up against the best out there.

That is insane. 1400 sq ft? I call that a shed (and I have one shed about that size). I think technically the 'tiny house' is limited to maybe 200-ish sq ft (trailer, 7-8 ft wide x 16 ft long). And 0.12 acres for a 'lot'? I've seen some developments even smaller, but that is insane. I have 6 separate fenced in yards surrounding my house (keeping various animals separated), the smallest of those is still bigger that 0.12 acres and the larger ones closer to an acre. Heck, another part where I fence off a piece of my driveway from animals is maybe 3 acres, and it's sole purpose is driveway (and keeping homestead away from the road/salesmen/curious eyes... and my wife wanted some pretty plants/shrubs where the cattle wouldn't eat them).

Just the other day I was talking with an lady at church, she once lived in Austin, bought her house for $30k and sold it a decade ago for $250k, she's so much happier well away from the city. Jeff, if you can change work, I'd definitely sell & buy something far from these hell holes we call 'cities'.

You are correct about the sqt of the tiny house its 220 not 440, and it's insane around here. We are now the Beer capital in NC and its driving relestat through the roof, good for use because were going to make a killing, the down side is ALL the people moving into the area. We are looking at moving in the near future.

You know what's funny? If you read the history of Salt Lick Barbecue, the "founder" was from Desoto County Mississippi, which is basically South Memphis, and moved to Texas in the 1800s.

Memphis has it's own Barbecue heritage that uses a sweet barbecue sauce (which is the type of BBQ I grew up with). Salt Lick uses a hybrid between Memphis style and Texas style, which is probably why I like it so much.
