Is anybody else on blood thinners here. I take Eliquist twice a day for previous bloodclots. I think it's good for my heart also. Makes it easier for pumping.

I don't seem to have any side affects , but Everytime I bump myself or rub against something I get these bruise marks.
They don't hurt , most time I don't even realize I did it.
But they are ugly.

Was working on the project car yesterday ,and reaching down thru front grill area to remove a little motor for the headlight covers. Tight squeeze.
This was the consequences last night.

Does anyone here have this problem...what can be done to treat it?
It's like blood just under the skin and takes weeks to go away.

That's typical as we get older. Being on blood thinners certainly doesn't help. Your skin gets thinner and more fragile.

My mom used to swear by Arnica Creme for bruises. I have never used the stuff myself, but my mom liked it. Warning: My mom would like something because her friends liked it, so YMMV. Wouldn't hurt to try rubbing some on though. See if it does anything. I think it takes a little time before it works, if it works - the bruises will not just disappear overnight.

Talk to your doctor about it. Maybe he will adjust the dose. But I think that is pretty normal. As I get older, I get those sort of surface bruises that, years ago, I thought of as bruises on old people. Well, here we are. I’m not on any blood thinners but if my dog jumps on me or I bump something wrong, I get a red, very superficial sort of bruise. I agree, they take a while to go away.

My Mom used to take prednisone. Her skin got very thin and she would bruise if you looked at her wrong.
I find bruises that I have no idea how I got them. I don't take blood thinners just a low-dose aspirin daily.
It's a 'damed if you do, and damed if you don't' thing. Spend some time with someone that has survived a major stroke. The rest of their life sux. I remember when I was young, almost all of the old folks had had at least one stroke. Most were fubar.
Don't underestimate the low-dose aspirin. I take it too.
If I knick myself shaving it takes 3 times as long to stop bleeding.
In early days, bruises were blue and it took a big wallop to get one.
Today, just bump something and there is a purple one.
But that is proof that the thinner is working. I can handle that.
I don't want to be one of those sitting in a wheelchair because half of their body doesn't work, with a towel under my chin to catch the drool dripping out of my mouth.
There's a reason you don't see that much anymore.
I'll gladly take the occasional purple spot, thank you very much.

I know the last time , back in March , that they drew blood for labs, it bruised bad and took weeks to clear up.
And I also take a 81 my aspirin daily.

I'm just not use to seeing this bruising on myself.

I'd like to apply something to make it go away quicker.
I consulted 'the experienced one' (my 86 y/o MIL) who has dealt with this for decades.
She said: "Vaseline petroleum jelly". She was told to use Vicks salve, but the vaseline works faster.
...Knew we kept her around for something. ;)

My Dad was having major bypass surgery and his chest cutter told us what Dad had was hereditary. Then he said all of us sons need to take an aspirin every day. I have followed his advice and will keep taking aspirin daily. One of my docs said I shouldn't take them because the research had shown it MIGHT cause problems. I told her I would continue and she said OK.
I do not want to stroke out and circulation problems are what kills most of the men in my family.

I recently started taking 5mg Eliquist twice a day. So far no really bad bruises but one will get them. My 85 year old brother has been on them for years and his arms are as purple as a full-sleeve tatto. Not much you can do for it but hydrate and moisturize.

Tpoical cortizone creams have to be used in moderation for us over 70. It will thin the skin if over-used.
