Because my building lot is sloped pretty good the floor on the uphill side of my house is 3 feet below grade and my patio off the side door will also be 3 feet below grade. The patio will be about 16 feet wide and reach out about 10 feet from the house with a cement floor and a block wall holding back the dirt. I will have a built in BBQ and wok on one side but I plan to decorate the patio to resemble the back deck area of a large cabin cruiser boat. Probably trying to use Teak or Birch wood or teak looking ceramic tile over the cement blocks to add to the boat appearance.
My question, is anyone aware of something similar or know of pictures of what others might have done? When I search on line I am only finding things where they used an old boat as a bar or leaned an old row boat against a wall. I can not find anything that actually looks like the back deck of a big cabin cruiser.
I know, I can just get pictures of old wood boats and try to copy the layout and look but if I can see what others have actually done it may give me better ideas. When the patio is done I will carry the nautical look in the side yard with a retaining wall for the berm resembling a sea wall, life rings or docking bumpers hanging off the sea wall, etc.
Thanks in advance.

Not much help with pictures, but it really depends on "the look" you are going for.

High dollar yachts have custom seats, upholstery etc.

Houseboats generally have "Patio furniture", pick your type, a couple of chaise lounges for sunning, and table and chairs under a cover, think Bimini cover.

There is also "fake self adhesive teak" decking available.

Too bad you weren't closer to an ocean port. I myself would love to pick up the transom of a large cabin cruiser that is being dismantled.

On the boat forum I follow, there is/was a boat I watched for years, hoping someone would restore it, but unfortunately, it was sold as scrap just last month. It was a great story from this record setting high speed yacht.

Former transatlantic record holder Gentry Eagle scrapped in California

Definitely not going for the super yacht look, more of an old wood cabin cruiser styles.
Fake self adhesive teak, do you mean the vinyl that is used on the newer boats? I will keep that in mind but I remember not liking the look 40 years ago when I was working on boats all the time. But you made me think of teak ceramic tile. That may be best for what I want and easy to clean the splatter from the BBQ. Thank you.

I guess I could style it after the old boat my dad's friend had and I was "allowed" to clean every week. The new owners completely restored and improved her. I suppose something like this would be fitting and would remind me of my childhood. I am thinking of the look from about the guys heals back to the transom, but I would need to add a bench seat at the back and use folding chairs closer to the house.

I am not quite understanding this but it sounds interesting. Can you elaborate?

Leave the beach out, and provide the illusion of open ocean, with a false "boat railing" along the wall, all boats have a railing.

Well beyond my ability, I would go with various shades of blue on the wall

I like it. But probably for the retaining wall 20 feet across the yard by the berm. That would look great.
Thank you.

EDIT: The patio retaining wall will be the one covered in fake teak and will have actual chrome boat rails with the swinging cup holders, and probably a flag pole with a light. Oh, and probably with fishing pole holders and some old fish poles.

This is the look out the side door at the sunken patio area. This is the area that will hopefully resemble the back deck of a boat.

And this is the look from outside.

And maybe resembling something like this when done, although without the fancy woodwork. I am thinking in the bench seat will be a couple of chest style refrigerators designed for outdoor use, or if I have to the ones actually made for a boat so they will better handle the heat.

Use stadium grade floor wax and urethane on that redwood floor, it'll last forever.
Yes, I have lots of practice with that from the days when I used to work on old wood boats. But, for that reason I am not using wood, it is too much work, plus the dry, hot desert environment would cause the wood to shrink and form gaps in the seams.
