Bolt Cutters and Cordless Angle grinders
Odd subject for prepping or what?, but wait think about it, So many footpaths, cycle ways, access roads for utilities, private tracks, forestry access roads etc are ideal places for us to hide along or for us to use to bug out along rather than use the main highways and these are usually close off to the public by a metal barrier / gate secured only by a PADLOCK.
Looking for a place to rest overnight either under a Basha or in a Vehicle could be made much easier if you could access these rarely used lanes, tracks etc that provide access to pumping stations, reservoirs, cell phone masts, sewage works, by passed ancient roads, railway maintenance access points, old cemeteries, old road side quarries, small industrial units etc and again these utilities are often closed off to the public by a single barrier with a padlock attached.
In a similar vein have you noticed the proliferation of mini industrial units / estates built on the edges of many villages and small towns, often you find at least 20% of these units empty and available to rent, again they are normally secured by a chain link fence and a padlocked gate and providing there is no alarm system or cctv these facilities could also be ideal places to access with bolt cutters to hide your BOV in overnight.
All too often we see these gated closed lanes, tracks, paths and facilities and because they have a single padlocked gate we automatically discount them as useful to us, but be honest if we have a societal collapse who on gods earth is going to spend time, resources and man power to check the security of these rarely used or visited places.
Its worth adding a set of bolt cutters at least to your tools and a cordless 4.5 inch angle grinder would likely be another asset, some people use mini acetylene cutting torches as alternatives.
And our course such tools would be very handy AFTER TSHTF to access abandoned businesses etc to salvage essential supplies.
And yes I did get the idea from The Walking Dead
