Canteen of water, field knife, 550 cord.
My bag (medium alice pack) has some changes of clothes, poncho, 550 cord, some snack foods, two canteens of water (w/ steel cup for boiling), couple lighters, fishing hooks/line, ferro rod, extra footwear (chuck taylors for packability in case my boots get soaked), machete, field knife, trash bags, a sleeping blanket/poncho roll...and I think thats about it. I know I need to get some medical supplies. If we're being realistic, I grab a go bag and I have water, food, shelter, weapons...pretty much most basic things you'd need.
If we're being literal, and I'm standing in the kitchen about to run out of the door,
1. A bottle of water from the refrigerator,
2. A Victorinox knife from the kitchen drawer,
3. My poncho (with big pockets!) hanging behind the kitchen door.
Maybe that's a good question (probably asked here many times before?)
What's in your go bags?
Now thats a well done bag. Can I ask though, why the paper clips, twisty ties and wont the summer sausage go bad unless you replace it every other day? lolBOB has two weeks of freeze dried food for 1 (900 calories a day)

Great minds think alike I guess. You posted as I was typing.Do you realize what MacGyver can do with a paper clip and a twisty tie??
A unopened summer sausage is good for at least 6 months without refrigeration, if kept in a cool dark place.
I agree with everything in that Altoid box. You never never know when You are going to need any of those things. Small space, light weight. I might add needle and thread, but fishing line works.
I'm at lake Buchanan. When I moved here 6 yrs ago I thought that was far enough away from Austin , now I'm thinking San Saba would've been better.
Me too.I live a long way from anywhere. I have everything I need here. The only thing that could drive me out is fire or radiation.
What if it's... FLAMING RADIATION!?I live a long way from anywhere. I have everything I need here. The only thing that could drive me out is fire or radiation.
Not a ladylike look I must say!
As a Firefighter, I'm always amazed and disappointed at how many preppers just don't prep at all for fires, and sometimes they set their selves up for it. You can have all the ammo and rations in the world, but if you dont replace your batteries on your smoke detectors, or have extinguishers (ABC and K type for any domestic house), well, don't be do disappointed when it goes up in flames.Me too.
Fire is always a concern. I have the tack room of the horse trailer loaded at all times Tent, cots, sleeping bags, cooking, food. 4 boxes of temperature sensitive stuff in the hallway to load at a moments notice.
Everything I have read about radiation/fallout is to hunker down. Kit in carport-plastic, duct tape, tyvec suits,
A volunteer for 20 years. Evacuated from 3 different fires 4 times in the past 5 years. 2 acres around the buildings cleared. 10 acres are about down to nothing because of my 4 legged lawnmowers. What if it's... FLAMING RADIATION!?
I dunno. I'd say thats wife material.

Seeing as how a structure fire is far more likely than ANY doomsday scenario, I feel it's a field so many of us are lacking in. Like stock piling without guns, you're just asking for disaster.

Yeah, you got me beat for sure.A volunteer for 20 years. Evacuated from 3 different fires 4 times in the past 5 years. 2 acres around the buildings cleared. 10 acres are about down to nothing because of my 4 legged lawnmowers.
Radiation training because my Fire Department was in the 10 mile radius of a nuclear plant.
I have a little experience.
