I wrote a while back about people in Chile and Peru captured water from damp air vapour that sustained their communities, but at the time I could not find the original article and photos. Well apparently the system works so well they are now trying it out in the Sahara.

Pretty cool idea. Low teck solution with no power needed, except the filtration they are using. Probably only good near costal regions that get recurring fog, but good info to know another option to find water.

I like the idea of capturing water from the air. In many desert areas with high humidity and no surface water it could be a great option. Don't think it would work in my area, summer humidity is usually is about 10-14% and winter is below freezing.

The cool thing about this is no electricity. I've known about a dehumidifier for a while but it takes power and has a motor with moving parts. The beauty of this design is simplicity.

Good innit, I first read about it over 20 years ago, If I remember right it was a couple of gap year American students who invented / developed the idea in part of Chile (I think) Any place near a large water body that gets a decent onshore breeze that creates fog / haar / low cloud can harvest water for free. Its being tried out on the north west african coast and I think it may have applications for remote off grid parts of Australia and New Zealand.
