Hey everyone! I read CoQ10 is good for the heart and other things, and they were giving out samples at Costco. Do you guys know if this stuff is good or not? Thanks!

Here is what the Mayo Clinic says about CoQ10
https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/coenzyme-q10/background/hrb-20059019

Background
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is an antioxidant that is made in the human body. CoQ10 is needed for basic cell function. CoQ10 levels decrease with age and may be low in people with cancer, certain genetic disorders, diabetes, heart conditions, HIV/AIDS, muscular dystrophies, and Parkinson's disease. Some prescription drugs may also lower CoQ10 levels.

CoQ10 in the body can be increased by taking CoQ10 supplements. There is evidence that idebenone, a man-made compound similar to CoQ10, may help treat Alzheimer's disease. However, evidence is lacking to support the use of CoQ10 itself for this condition. There is some evidence to support the use of CoQ10 for high blood pressure and heart failure.

Promising uses of CoQ10 include eye disease, chest pain caused by exercise, asthma, chronic fatigue, and high cholesterol, as well as the treatment of chemotherapy side effects in children.

Evidence is conflicting for the use of CoQ10 in heart muscle problems and exercise performance. There is some negative evidence for the use of CoQ10 in the treatment of diabetes, hepatitis C, and Huntington's disease.

My take on supplements and vitamins is that if you eat a good well balanced diet then you shouldn't need them. I think there are plenty of people with illnesses the can benefit from adding something, but there is so little research in most of these things that your about as likely to cause harm as you are good. In another hundred years medical science will know more about the body's needs and effects of these things, and testing for the correct levels, but for our generation I kind of feel you are using yourself as a guinea pig by testing the effects of some of these things. I don't think taking a multi vitamin is a bad thing here, just remember, all good things in moderation.
One last thing that comes to mind, rhino horn is worth more than gold. It's ground up and used to treat all kinds of things. It's nothing but a giant fingernail and has no medicinal benefits. Yet people are still willing to pay huge amounts for it and kill a species for it.

I read a book called "The Oral Health Bible" by a dentist and he recommended taking it for overall health and because it's also good for oral health.

I started taking it after reading that.

I’m not against supplements in general, just don’t believe they are necessary if you eat a good diet. That being said, most people now days don’t eat well....
I do think dental health does affect your overall health. Our bodies systems are all interconnected in ways we are just beginning to understand, so any one thing neglected has consequences on all of it. I had been putting off getting three crowns for way too long now, so got two of them done today. Feels like that little dentist gave me a right hook to the jaw, and then a left one too! I wanted to do all three at once, now I’m glad she talked me out of it. In two weeks I will get the third one done. Anyways, yes it’s expensive and painful, but I keep thinking about Tom Hanks in Castaway using a skate and a rock to knock out an assessed tooth. If we are right in our thinking about a possible shtf situation, having dental work before it will certainly be less painful.
