Rosy shiner minnow, Shiners in the US are used as a bait fish for anglers, cheap as chips and almost ignored in the US. Over here a friend of mine a fellow aquarist has just paid £30 ($40) for three beautiful breeding pairs of these gorgeous fish.

I know a Guy that paid alot for a couple of yellow Koi's to go in His pond . He already had orange and white Koi's that are more common . He looked out one morning and abig Blue Herron was wadeing around in His pond so He went to check it out . It grabbed both His fancy yellows .

Does he wanna buy some blue gill perch? Lol
Blue gill were very popular temporate aquarium fish over here for years but now new laws make it hard to get any US coldwater or temporate fish because of the risk to them escaping into the wild. The UKs own native White claw Crayfish has nye on been wiped out in many places by the US Signal crayfish. also the once common but very beautiful US Pumpkinseed fish which often sold for a lot of money are now only available by specialist dealers.

Yup a guy over here went on holiday to Japan to learn from expert Koi breeders, Either he or the friend he asked to care for his Koi forget to net the pond. Came home for find over £3000 $4000 of Koi had been eaten by Heron. Technically its illegal to kill Heron in the UK but I know of some fish keepers who have had to.

There are some truly amazing and VERY beautiful native fish in the US that Americans see as pests or bait fish or simply ignore from Mosquito fish to Mollys and Platys, Pumpkinseeds and others that often sell in large numbers over here. Apparently there was nearly a riot in the southern US a few years ago when a load of Brit aquarists went to a aquarist convention in the US. some locals invited them for a days fish exploring and fishing. The Brits freaked out when the locals were using gorgeous shiners as bait. I believe one local who used young goldfish as baitfish got " accidentally"" got pushed into a bayou.

These critters live in streams, drainage ditches, puddles, creeks etc in the US and are SOOOOOOOO beautiful.

Locally We call the Pumpkinseed a Guinea perch because the markings look like Guinea feathers . They live in streams , Rivers and lakes here . We catch a few while fishing for Bluegills and Shell Crackers . I saw one that was around 2 lbs caught in a creek that hardly ever gets fished . You have to walk to get there .

A full colured 2 pounder if imported safely and legally would probably sell for maybe $100 or more if it was of show quality. I've seen British aquarists almost come to blows over the rare occurances of high quality WILD caught specimin fish from the US. One breeder drove almost the whole length of the UK to an importer that had arare batch of some live bearers from the far south of the US.

We are to far North to have wild Molly's and Platty's . We have had them on aquariums. They multiply fast .
I have some relatives who's aquarium pump went out so they put a Butterfly tail Gold fish in a nearby stream . 10 years later I was Hunting / hiking the woods around the place they turned it loose . I looked into that deep pool of the creek and it lit up bright orange as that Butterfly tail came from under a drift and made a circle in that water hole .
