I am starting a poll to discover if anyone would love to display their pride in DPF by wearing a cap, a T-shirt or either a sticker or patch that can be applied to whatever you like. The T-shirt and cap would have a DPF graphic that has not yet been created. DPF members will be able to vote on the design and at some point may be able to submit a design of choice and that will be voted on.
I have always displayed my pride of various things either with a T-shirt or cap and thought I would suggest it to see how many other members would also like to display DPF on a shirt or cap. The sticker or patch will also have the same DPF graphics. The price for this has not yet been established but you can be sure there will not be a profit. Proceeds will go to DPF to keep it going and support the boss in all his great efforts and work he has done with DPF.
The poll will last for 24 days.

Hmmmm....maybe this is my ticket to getting banned...

F##k no! So people could laugh at me and think I'm bat shyt crazy? Lmfao!

That would be foolish.

Ok silent earth, what is your first principle of prepping?

In no particular order :) cos I cannot find the file :) and because my post should have read " ONE of the first principles of prepping" :)

but my own personal number one is NEVER BECOME A REFUGEE

Dont be tagged as a prepper or anything else just be the gray man as best you can
Never become a refugee in a camp, fences can keep you in as well as others out
Dont surrender your weapons unless the other side does so first
Always have two ways out of any place you go into
PPPPPPPP ( Proper, Planning and Preparation, Prevents Piss Poor Performance)
Recce (recon) first every time before going in, and observe from afar for a sensible period
Just because the crowd is running in one direction does not mean you should do the same
Just because its your intention to bug in you should not cancel your plans to bug out if you have to
Arms outstretched turn 360 degrees, anything inside that circle is YOURs and no one should come inside unless invited
If your BOL is 250 miles away you need fuel for 1000 miles to allow for diversions, slow speed crawls etc
When TSHTF you NEVER ever go without Knife, Lighter, Compass and Flashlight (plus PDW in US)

Sorry SE I'm struggling to remember and I cannot find the damn file again, You have to forgive me cos the original list was assembled over 25 years ago by multiple others.

Remembered another
"" One is none and two is one ""( for tools, kit and supplies I think)
And another two

Never go DIRECTLY to your BOL unless you absolutely know you are not being tailed.

When out patrolling / recceing etc never use the same way out or back twice in a row

oh and

Your PDW, Knife, Flashlight, Lighter, Compass, Shades go on your PERSON and never in your pack when TSHTF

I hate being put on the spot like this, its years since I read that list :)

Plan NOW
Never keep all your supplies / food / gear in one location
Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it

Please dont ask me what order they come in :)

Sorry SE, I cannot remember the rest :(

Never make radio broadcasts from your home location because bad guys can triangulate.
The best base antenna is the one that cannot be easily seen ( so no big masts)

Damn it IIRC there was at least fifty of them most brilliant words of wisdom by old school American survivalists and I cannot remember them.

all good silent earth and a couple I haven't heard before............everyone is going to have their own and the priority for it will be different too.
Never trust anyone
Never take the same route home.
2 of my antenna's (vertical dual-band) are high up (30' & 38') and are painted like the trees they hide in. They work very well but won't do me any good if I bug out.
bugging out will be with HT's or portable base station with dual-band with X-band, battery, charge controller, amp speaker and solar panel.
would not be able to bug out too far with it. Anyway Silent Earth, good job naming all those.
The only way to make good use of this portable set-up is to pick a mountain with a minimum of 5,000 feet. From my experience and where I live, placing this system at 5000 feet would give me solid coverage from Tulare (75 miles +-) south, Merced (85 miles +-) north and Los Banos (100 miles +-) west. I will not be doing any recon westward. I will most likely be using same radio but with a custom water proof back-pack with an aluminium core structure, kinda like a roll cage to house the radio and battery. The metal structure supports the battery/radio box made with plexi-glass and the antenna base. as well as the small solar panel. It is light weight but room left for a few things. This one I have hiked trails on foot and with altered fat tire mountain bike. The plexi-glass box and metal antenna support is removable and mounts in a few minutes to a custom made rear rack. There is a 2 piece antenna extension (14" each piece) that extends the antenna height when mounted to the bike rack. This whole box with radio and battery is less than 7lbs. Whether bugging in or out, my radio(s) will be wherever I am. Spend 24 hours with a scanner monitoring several channels and you'll understand how important it is to know whats going on around you and this is pre-SHTF traffic. At some point when monitoring channels i'll have 10 channels busy with serious calls and this is just one little town. You have to listen to get a feel for how much crap is going on all at the same time. When SHTF you'll have criminals coming out of the nooks and crannies and you'll have those who have kept their heads down but SHTF gives them new confidence to join their buddies on the streets. I'm so glad I live at 3k feet instead of in the middle of a neighborhood. i will have my concerns but they will be much less than in a neighborhood.
Be happy when you can go from point "A" to point "B" without firing one shot. You will have done so without alerting others of your arrival. We DON'T want to advertise what we are doing or where we are going.
for at least the members of DPF we don't have our heads in the sand. We are thinking, using our knowledge and that knowledge has given us the power to do what we couldn't do before we had the power. The best part is that power goes where we go. after we have gained this knowledge (power) is when the power becomes so valuable. It's when we are out of something or faced with a dilema that this power becomes active as you remember some knowledge that is going to save your life or get you out of trouble because you decided to stay up and read that book that others said was not that important. something told you to read and you, at a time of need remembered something that others didn't have the time to read therefore they didn't gain the knowledge (power) they needed in this time of need. Every book, page or chapter is valuable when it's time of need arises. I myself end up finding a book i hadn't read when i'm looking for something and anymore I do read it. Even if I hadn't finished reading it i'll read it again and i'll find something I read but this time it stuck.
Be safe and well preppers.........gain your knowledge now so you'll have the power later.

I cannot remember either where I filed the thread or where it started but I have a feeling it MAY have been the old Rocky Mountain Survival group archive which shows how old it was. Another few were

Tracer works both ways
When bugged out ONE cooks ONE stands guard, One eats One stands guard, One sleeps One stands guard
At night your EARS work better than your EYES

Oh yes one that provoked much discussion was

When bugging out NEVER walk along roads and highways or rail lines, people lay ambushes on them, always walk at least 100 meter parallel to those roads preferably using terrain to shield you from preying eyes lying in wait.

Ref radio antenna which I know NOTHING about, some folks commented that they used IIRC Fine wire Di-poles etc that if they cannot conceal it they have it on a pully so they can put it up easily when they need it , then lower it when its not in use.

Just remembered another No smelly cooking fires during the day and only burn wood, coal, etc that doesnt smoke.

Radio's? Yes, radios or at least a scanner is a must. most radios are easily modified and most radios cover in the recieve mode much of local, state and some federal frequencies. For me, having a radio is my ear to hearing things that I would not otherwise hear.
In 10 minutes I found over 30 transcievers for around $30 -$50. Most of them were dual-band radios meaning they cover VHF and UHF. Without modifications this coverage gives you access to local and state police, fire, ambulance, EMS, hospitals, PG&E and other utility agencies like water. Not sure what agencies will be operaing after SHTF and that depends on what disaster has happened and how much has been affected or how big the disaster is. I know many officers have told me when a SHTF scenario occurs they most likely will be home protecting their families. even with an unmodified radio you can hear some very valuable things that may help you decide on your next move. you decide to head south and you hear on your radio that there are serious battles going on for food and other resources south on the route you were going to take. This will stop you in your tracks and you must re-evaluate your plan to keep yourself and family safe. there are many situations where a radio will keep you safe and out of the path of law enforcement as well as the criminals or the frantic and dangerous public who are just trying to survive. a crowd of people can be a good sight or can be the thing you are trying to avoid. Myself i would avoid it because confronting a good group of people who are hungry and scared might just turn on you to take what you have. They are capable of just about anything so avoiding large groups should be a must. Just consider that ANYONE can be a threat so never let down your guard.
at the price these days I would recommend getting a cheap radio and learn how to use it. Go online and discover the many resources to obtain radio frequencies for your area and frequencies for areas you may be headed to. Getting (2) two radios, one for yourself and one for someone in your group that knows how to use it and someone you know you can trust. Anyone who is doing recon or just out gathering wood should have one and if the need arises he can alert you to incoming guests that were not invited.
This is a must to have and at the prices today why wouldn't you get at least one radio? It's a powerful tool that CAN save your life and the lives of your loved ones.
Today your supposed to get a license but thats if your going to talk on it. After SHTF I doubt anyone is going to ask if your licensed.

This is a link to ebay so you can see how inexpensive radios are these days.

As for things that are important, radios are at the top of that list. If you don't understand how important get one, learn how to use it then listen everyday for a week then you'll understand what your missing. It's a good investment and i'm sure you can afford something that could keep you safe and alive.

Nope. I never pay to advertise for someone else.

OK, agreed, the poll was a bad idea, but not everyone is afraid............NOT afraid but playing it smart right? Better choice of words. The ones not pepping are the ones who believe that our government takes very good care of us and would never tell a lie to the American people.
I guess I would have to agree with many that for conferences and the like it would be ok. I get the point though and agree, keep a low profile.
