I have always been a saver and had the long game in sight. That dosent mean I haven’t enjoyed life by any means, but that I always considered the future as well. I have a brother in law that’s my age, still shy of 60. He recently went to the doctor for the first time in 10 years. His PSA, (a prostate health indicator) was off the charts. Long story short, with each Dr’s visit the news just keeps getting worse. It’s aggressive, has spread and isn’t looking good long term. I haven’t been close with him at all, but know what my sister will go through with treatments, economic and emotional stresses. I’ve seen several go through bad prostate cancer, my own father included, and it’s no fun.
so, there are two morals here for me. The first, as indicated by the post title, don’t forget to enjoy each and every day. There are no guarantees of anything beyond the here and now. Yes, I still believe in long range goals, just don’t focus so much on them that you forget to enjoy today.
the other moral is no matter how good you feel, or how young you are, go and get a physical each year. Many issues can be caught early and treated without much concern. ignoring your health can bite you in the ass, more so than any economic or other issues in life.
