Turns out ALL the airlines and ALL the Railways are turning around their planes and trains but NOT disinfecting them or deep cleaning them, especially the short haul planes, to save money on fuel airlines are recirculating the air inside the planes instead of having its flow through and out. Apparently it takes extra fuel to take in fresh air from outside at altitude and compress it enough to create 1 atmosphere in the cabin, so they recirc the air inside the plane thus spreading germs.

avoid public transport at the best of times if possible, but especially whilst the virus is ongoing.
some of us don't have any option but own transport as public transport dosent exist in rural areas.

Well the only train around here is drive over to Chattanooga and pay $$$ to ride the historic Chattanooga Choo Choo . We took the Grandkids over couple years ago to ride it during the Christmas season when they were having the Polar Express ride .
Seriously I haven't had to fly in years thankfully . And very little public transportation in rual areas .

The only train I've taken in the US other than commuter/subway was the City of New Orleans. Took the original City of New Orleans (the one the song was about) from Jackson, MS to New Orleans twice. Back then you could leave in the wee hours of the morning from Jackson, watch the dawn as you crossed Lake Pontchartrain, spend a whole day in the Big Easy, and then return late that night.

I would say for now if you are young and healthy I would still travel commercial but just take precautions like not touching your face, have wipes or sanitizer, and I don’t feel a mask is a bad idea at all. If you are older, immune comprised or live with someone who is then it’s probably about time to stop.

The air re-circulation on planes has always been an issue, plus being so close to so many other human beings. And they keep the air super-dry, which dries out nasal passages and mucus membranes and makes them more susceptible to germs. Airplanes are always prime germ transmission machines. I would certainly avoid flying to any area where there is known Coronavirus, unlike someone I know who is flying to California this week.
Trains aren't quite as bad IMO because people aren't crammed quite so tight and there is a lot more circulation of fresh air. But still anyone who has to take any type of public transport needs to be very cautious about washing hands/using sanitizers, and wiping down phones, etc that may have been contaminated. I read an article about how you shouldn't be wiping down cellphones with sanitizer but I've been doing this for a long time and my phone is still working.
The number of articles I have read discouraging such precautions is ridiculous. Don't wear masks, don't wipe everything down, don't stay away from public transportation, it's all just hysteria they say. And yet they can't contain the virus.

My wife flys to and from work every 3 weeks. Unfortunately one of her connections is Seattle. She leaves this Wednesday so it's too late to change her route. She doesn't like flying any more than most people do right now, but it's the only way for her to get to work.

this would be a good time to take some time off,,,say about 3 months

I talked to my mom today and told her if it starts getting bad close to where I am I will be taking off for a while and going to stay with them. She seemed kind of clueless about the seriousness of the situation, pretty typical for her but when things get bad she just rolls with it rather than freaking out. I know my dad is well aware of the situation and probably has some kind of contingency plans in place, but will need mom's help to implement them "in the moment." They're a good team that way.

most British public transport is over crowded and filthy and over priced, on some trains and even buses your lucky if you get a seat you may have to stand the whole journey especially in commuting periods.

My wife was supposed to be going to London for a few midical conferences, I have told her she aint going. And as it stands she wont be going to Georgia or Mississippi in October either.

I think you can still go out even during the worst of it. That being said, it counts for younger healthy people that don’t have older or sick people at home they might accidentally infect. While out though even the young would be well advised to have (and use) hand sanitizer, wipes and a mask if in populated areas. Things like hand washing, not touching you’re face and not shaking hands or hugging will go a long way towards protecting you. I’ve decided the risk to my wife is high enough that I will only venture out for minimal times and will be a lot more careful now. When it is widespread here I will quarantine here completely.

Air fares are now really cheap. My older daughter has been taking advantage of the prices for quick trips all over the place. She is planning on a trip to S. Florida later this week. Round trip Charlotte to Ft. Lauderdale and back is $66. She is young and taking precautions (wipes and mask, etc) so she plans on taking advantage of this opportunity to travel.

I am NOT saying this is a good idea but when young, I can understand her logic.

My niece is on a plane to the U.K. today. Although her trip was planned a long while back she is young and healthy and smart enough to take some precautions. I would have gone if I was in her shoes too.
