Drilling a well

Hey all

So I'm wondering if you can have. Well drilled on your property either in the city or in the country?
If so how would you go a out this

What I'm a out to say is silly- but in a few stories I've read they talk a out drilling wells for fresh drinking water.
So it got me wondering if we can have it done in Australia.

I'm based in Sydney. But BOL is near Goulburn if that makes a different.

Oh and how would you go about finding out what the water table height is in your area?

I am going to put in my own well later this summer. I cant do it now due to an injured arm. I plan on using this method. I know however my water table is only 18 feet down. I plan on going 26 feet. Hope it helps!

If you lived in WA I could give you plenty of information, however Perth is one of the few Australian cities that so heavily depends on groundwater for potable water supplies. I grew up in Sydney, and where I lived attaining groundwater would have been pointless (hard sandstone and deep groundwater aquifers). Rainwater tanks and water recycling would be better options where I lived in Sydney. Could install subterranean water tanks too (so have a stockpile that can be replenished or topped up for a just in case scenario) and a little more secure.

Around Goulborn you may have more luck. You could probably talk to some local farmers as they might have an idea about this. Again rainwater tanks (submerged) could be a viable alternative if groundwater isn't possible (more secure than a dam onsite). Your big concern would be ensuring you have large enough roof catchments to supply water sufficiently?? If you used water predominantly for drinking and cooking purposes you could probably get away with just a house for the catchment (depending on family size).
