I think that earthworks are a great way to improve your property. They can be used for improving security improving privacy from nosy neighbors they can also be used for water storage and making ponds and also making huegal culture beds for planting food.

I would imagine that city or county codes are likely going to impact such a plan. Even where I'm at (I could fire a gun in my yard, and never hear a siren), I doubt I could legally throw up a large dirt rampart.
Post SHTF however...just make sure to line the bottom (on your side), with nasty pit traps that will cripple those getting over your ramparts...
Problem is though, unless you have a high outlook position that can see over them, the ramparts also block YOUR view too.

Yeah that is a good point that is just something that people will have to deal with based on there location
