Excerpt: "Many people are still raised in English-only speaking households, and studies show that by the third generation, many descendants of immigrant families lose their abilityto speak their family’s language of heritage. The US Census estimates that around 231 million Americans aged five years or older, or about 80% of the population, speak only English at home. In 2013, a YouGov survey found that 75% of Americans only speak English – despite 43% of those surveyed stating that “Americans should know as many languages as possible.”

I was reading about a dialect of English called Euro English.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro_English

The definition on Wikipedia is:

Euro English is a set of varieties of English used in Continental Europe and especially in the institutions of the European Union or among young mobile Europeans.

Which means a dialect of English is the lingua franca of the EU. And the English speaking member of the EU is LEAVING. LOL

I'm guessing the French would refuse to speak German as a lingua franca, and the Germans would refuse to speak French as a lingua franca, etc. out of intercontinental rivalry, so they had to pick a non-continental language for intercommunication.

Well, the English played with their own accent. They used to speak just as we do.

I've been using more Spanish, since there are a lot of Hispanic laborers near us. So at least that's getting better.

I took Russian before, but really no opportunity to practice it, so I've basically forgotten most of it.

I can swear in Arabic, but other than that, and a few key phrases and words, not much else.

I'd love to get better at them though. I tried some language programs, but just didn't work well for me.
