I need a link or basic education on exfoliation methods. (for a human thingie)

I went to amazon.com to shop for something and ended up confused as to methods. I had assumed there was a simple "basic" sponge used, but wow.....figure I need a basic education to procced.

Way-back in the 'Rottenchester days' (I know you know that 'Special Pain' ;) I suffered from Terrible dry-skin, that would - because of it - germinate awful zits, etc, What helped Me the Most, was using a combo of just plain old 'Apricot-pit scrub' in the shower, ie:

www.amazon.com/St-Ives-Fresh-Apricot-Packaging/dp/B01HTJTS0W (..and, you can certainly choose whatever Brand you like (though that Is a good one, Imo / E) just be sure to look for: Apricot pit (as-exfoliant) and Some kind of 'moisturizing (but non-comedogenic) base', so you're not left 'scrubbed raw', afterwards..)

..I'd then follow up, post-shower, with 'FOTE' (Exclusively..) Aloe Vera Gel, ie: www.amazon.com/Fruit-Earth-Aloe-Vera-24oz/dp/B005C28Z9O/ (...and, IF you can get items shipped from them to yer Mountain (since I know that's a 'big consideration') Walmart.com does sell it Much cheaper, ie: $4.38-ish per 12 oz..

..But if not, that Amazon-listing IS the 'Right Stuff' Again, non-comedogenic, no fragrance or crap-colorants, etc, no (further-drying) alcohol, etc.. Multiple-layers, applied to scrubbed-area / overall on skin, post-exfoliation, was The Ticket. 👍

And, Fwiw, Any of those 'loofa' sponges, etc, I found did little-to-nothing, for 'deep' / Real-exfoliating (compared to the Apricot-pit scrub, which had No Need of 'using a sponge', either - Just plain old hand / elbow-grease) YMMV, of course, so You do You and all.. ;)

I also moved to an Olive-Oil soap (again, Exclusively) and That also really helped cut down on dry skin (vs using 'deodorant soap' (Horribly skin-drying, Omg..) or even like a 'Dove' or other-supposedly 'moisturizing soap' - All Crap, compared to Olive Oil soap ) I Highly recommend 'Kiss My Face' brand, also easily findable on Amazon, there..

Fwiw..

You could try a salt scrub or sugar scrub. They are easily made at home. Dampen a container of sugar or salt with just enough oil to cover it. Rub on dry skin in the shower. Wash like normal. Your shower or tub will be slick when you're done, so it will need to be washed afterwards. It's not recommended for anyone who's mobility impaired because it does leave an oily residue behind. The sugar or salt exfoliates and the oil moisturizes.

Ehh, you certainly Can, and it's definitely a fine 'backup' / alt-Suggestion (for post-collapse remedy, when Amazon, et all are deep-sixed, etc) but.. My .02 (from having Done / 'suffered' it..) is for Any 'tender-area skin', ie: Back / Face / Torso-flanks, etc - it's just 'too much'. It's like using an 80-grit sanding-wheel on yer skin. o_O

..And I think the 'why of that' is because of the 'density of the exfoliating particulate' (compared to the 'sparser' distribution / concentration of the Apricot-pit-based stuff - which, sure, I'd bet you could Also 'DIY', perhaps with a stone-mill / appropriately-tough grinder, etc) And, just 'using Less' of a sugar/salt spread, doesn't help much (because then you're short on 'area coverage'..)

If I were to try that again, I'd use: the 'Raw' unrefined cane sugar (usually bigger granules = still good scrubbing-power, with less 'density' needed, vs small-granular sugar / salt) and use either a Coconut Oil (which, below 70˚ F will be a nice 'congealed paste' vs liquid) or Olive-oil base, which are Both great for the skin, and quicker to absorb, than veg-oils, etc... But, like you say - with Extreme Caution, cuz an oiled-up Tub could = a split-noggin, right quick.

..but, I'll tell ya what a 'raw sugar scrub' is Awesome / unmatched for exfoliating: Feet, especially heels.

Just my .02 :)

Years ago Doctor told me that showering with hot water would cause a problem for some people.
That warm or tepid water was better.
