wild hogs out of control,,,,so Texas has decided to use poison on them,the same type for killing rats,I think it is a bad idea, if it is the same crap now on the shelf for rodents here in Arkansas it does not work rodents rarely touch it but these are hogs they will eat just about anything so what you could have is hogs that are no longer safe for human consumption a and danger to anything that feeds off one that has died from the poison,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,here is a link to the story

I don't like the wide spread use of poison for any kind of critter control. Especially when the government is in charge of it. I used to use poison in my barns to control the mice, but have switched over to using repeater style traps instead. How about putting a bounty on the wild hogs?

Don't need a bounty, many places are charging and getting pretty good money from hunters for the opportunity to go and shoot them.
Just need to advertise the opportunity!

Maybe those that are having problems with the feral hogs should be paying hunters and trappers to remove the problem hogs instead. As far as advertising goes, every outdoor magazine in the country run article's on hunting hogs.

I'm sure money is flowing either way depending on the needs of the parties involved. At some point perhaps hunting may not keep up with procreation and other measures may be needed. I have never paid to hunt either, but for many, it is a convenient method to get on the better hunting areas.

And even if you maintain your own deer camp, on your own land, you pay through the nose to hunt. It would actually be a lot cheaper (and a lot less work) if I just joined a deer camp somewhere.

Public land is a different thing. It has never worked out for me, but my nephews have done pretty well hunting public land.

I'm surrounded by several million acres of National Forest, State Forest and BLM lands. No need for me to pay for a hunting lease.

Arctic here in Arkansas most private land is leased out,the public land we need a permit to hunt anything but small game and archery and the permits are not free,,,,so down here for the most part we pay to play,,,,,I miss the old days when you could hunt almost anywhere you wanted.....................

I've been seeing the adds for hog hunting in Texas all the time and actually am thinking about doing it one day. Seems like a blast. And I like me a couple wild hogs in the freezer.

saw a nature show today about those hogs,they said those hogs number in around 6 million or more and chew up crops accordingly...

and it all started from domesticated pigs turned loose By the conquistadors..

B) Wild: Purposely introduced Russian Boar - these and their hybrid offspring are the really mean ones.

Game ranches will introduce a few Russians to breed with their feral hogs.

We have pure feral hogs on our property. They are extremely and I mean EXTREMELY shy. We see them on game cams and see their wallows, but never ever see them in daytime. Some are huge.

hunting hog,,,the best time is the first 2 hours after you can see things moving about,hunting where they have it all rooted up and wallows have never worked for me find the trails they travel and be on stand during those first couple hours of the day,,,,now if it is hot during the day and has been for a couple weeks,and you have a good steady rain the hogs will get out and play in the rain pretty much all day,I have had my best hog hunting days during hot spell during a rainy day,,,,they are like little kids out playing in the rain and they are careless on this type of day,,,,there is nothing like fresh pork on a grill

It would be pretty scary if the gov actually oked that. What happens if someone consumed that pig that ate the poison? Its not unheard of at all that if a pig or whatever gets hit by a car it goes to someone who can use that meat. We've gotten a few pigs and even a couple deer cause they known we will take the time to clean & process. It's not even just people though. What's going to happen to other animals that do the 'clean up' or what is going to stop any other animal from eating the bait? I don't think this will actually pass thru and ever get done with all the 'what if' scenarios.
