France Finance Minister: Europe Must Become an ‘Empire’

French want a European Empire, I am sure Germany would volunteer to lead it. They have tried twice in the last century to accomplish this feat. The French better be careful for what they wish, because The U.S.A. won't come to their rescue this time.

"France’s Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire has called for Europe to become an “empire” to compete with the United States after the country’s President Emmanuel Macron called for an EU army to defend against the NATO ally.
“It’s about Europe having to become a kind of empire, as China is. And how the U.S. is,” Mr Le Maire told Germany’s Handelsblatt.

Adding that it would be a “peaceful empire,” the economics and finance minister touted the progressive government’s green credentials, saying that the European empire should “rel[y] on green growth. Neither China nor the U.S., who are leaving the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, are on this path.”

Quizzed by the journalist on his reference to “empire,” Mr Le Maire said: “Do not get me wrong, I’m talking about a peaceful empire that’s a constitutional state."

France has always been a slave to the Germans, they were is two world wars and they are so today within the EU.
the EU just don't understand the British, there is a line in our national anthem "Britons never never will be slaves" says it all I think.

This reminds me of corporations that are failing. They take 2 bad companies and merge them, thinking it will make them stronger. Like combining Sears and Kmart. Maybe they should rename france "Sears" and Germany as "Kmart". Good luck with that one.

The Legion was awesome, but kind of a mess. It's amazing they get anything done. Imagine a group of 10, where 4 speak one language, and 4 a different language, and 2 who speak those languages plus French.

They were super excited when I started speaking Japanese to the two Japanese guys, then super dissapointed when I told them I didn't speak enough to get them through training. Explain the difference between cover and concealment in Japanese? 0 chance of that.

Good guys, though, and IMO, on par with US Marines in training and capabilities, with budget and material limitations.

Still one of the last real boot camps. I watched idiots get punched and straight up beat down by the caporal chefs in charge.

They stress that "la Legion" is famous for fighting to the death. It's a thing.

I like General Patton's idea. He did not want his troops to die for America. He wanted the enemies troops to die for their country. Can't win the battle, haul azz , regroup and then fight the battle. The idea is to win, not just show up for the fight.

France, Italy, Spain, who is going to make up this Empire? There is only one country in Europe I believe could make an empire and they have tried twice before. If Europe is not real careful, they will all end up speaking German.

still remember when my dad was alive and he had taken a few beers,he asked me a question;who did eventually came out as victors from WW2?
I gave him the text book answer,and his answer was yet an other question; what country is running the business in Europe,what country in the orient has the strongest economy?

well at that time it was Germany and Japan and ours was not that bad either...Russia was on its knees,nothing really working there,US was okay and China was still a work in progress...

Yes Germany does control the finances but it is different to manage the money verses control the military. All power comes force of arms. Germany can only get way with what ever the other countries allow, but once they get to run the E.U. military, then they will truly Rule Europe. Russia should beware, they will be a natural target once the E.U. build up a strong military force. I can see the old Soviet Union satellite countries allowing the E.U. armies to roll right on through, into Russia. If the old NATO fails and I think it will, there will be a NEW E.U. military. World Peace is like Utopia --- a myth, never to happen.
