gave a homeless guy a job

Had a guy at the gas station ask me for 75 cents, and since it was about three blocks from the job site, I told him I wouldn't give him money, but he could come scrape paint for 10 bucks an hour.

He did great the first day, and got paid cash.

Second day, he used, pretty obviously heroin. I had to let him go.

I guess I didn't do him any favors.

Kind of bummed about it. Didn't seem like a bad guy, just a bit lost.

Ah, well. Only mention it because homelessness is a topic on the forum, thought I'd share the experience.

there was a labourer on one of my building sites back along, great guy when sober but come pay day he's off to the pub at lunch time, comes back tanked up and has a go at the site agent, told to go home and sleep it off, instead he comes back and has another go at site agent, result: sacked on the spot.

Homeless guy had a bicycle and cruised the neighborhood looking for yards that needed raking. I decided to reward his initiative and I let him come once a week, do all sorts of handyman jobs outside and payed him well - much more than what the work was worth. That went on for a couple of years.

I kept encouraging him to get a steady job, but every time he got some sort of job, he would either get sacked or just stop showing up for work one day.

His drug abuse finally got to him, he died young of a heart attack. I could tell his health was rapidly deteriorating. It got to where he didn't have the strength to do anything strenuous. It took me a while to track down what happened to him. I went to his funeral visitation and his mother confirmed my suspicions. We were they only two people there...

Americans are the most generous and helpful people in the world but all the best intentions cannot fix peoples problems. The people themselves must be willing to put forth the effort.

Iv hired several homeless over the years . None worked out . Ine was doing great . When I hired Him He had His Wife and Kids living in a tent . I promoted Him got Him a good raise . He walked out one day last I heard They were homeless again. Another lived in His car worked for us a couple months and got caught stealing and was fired and arrested .
