I am in Arkansas I lived in Jacksonville Florida before coming here, now J-ville if we ever do get hit with nukes will be nothing but ashes Arkansas at least I will have a chance,I am getting ready to build a bunker with a small house over top of it,,,a deep bunker is not possible where I am so I will need to be creative,I will get into that at another time another thread,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Clinton scares me to death

Welcome. Posting pictures of your ideas and progress is great for helping others to learn or be motivated. I plan to build a down sized house on the back of the property here. Part of the plan is to have a basement with a concrete ceiling, aka a root cellar/shelter. Luckily I have hills to work with and no water problems.
Again, welcome and we look foward to hearing your ideas.

howdy from a Texan .... and welcome to the forum and family...there's quiet a few knowledgeable folks here that'll gladly tell ya what you need to know,or at least point ya in the right direction and/or give ya a good idea or 2..and by all means jump right on in with any replies you have on a topic.and start new topics if/when needed...

basic plan for the house will be an old style,I don't want it to look to modern,,,,as for the shelter it will be dug into a hillside as much as possible with either 12 or 16 inch walls 8 ft high and a 6 inch floor the ceiling of the basement will be 8 inches of concrete supported by several I-beams with the walls extending an additional 28 inches this cavity will be filled with dirt and capped with 4 inches of concrete creating the floor for the house, access from the house will be a concrete tower with a blast door disguised as a closet capped with concrete,,,,there is a house not far from the property that has the look I want I will get a snap shot of it and post it in a few days

this is the style house I want on this property it has it has that older 40's or 50's look to it

Any shelter I'd do would have to be above ground here in FL. I toyed with the idea of building one with concrete block and then making it look more like an old barn...but way more than I care to spend in time or resources in lieu of other preps.

Glad to see folks realize though, that a nuclear war may not necessarily destroy the world. A lot of that is based on some very bad pop culture vs. actual science. It'll suck, even if out of a main area of effect, but may not be unsurvivable.

Personally, I think the chances are slim. Isolated attacks? Sure, but those would be in statement areas. I doubt any nuclear power will risk mutual destruction. Even the crazies. Russia and China are really the only two that have enough to do damage after the BMDS (Ballistic Missile Defense System), and since both of them have a LOT fewer targets that WE'd have to take out...just can't see them doing it.

Attacking the US is like attacking 50+ different nations with an iron clad defense treaty (and literally 1000's of military targets). It's logistical suicide, and you can bet our enemies know it.
