watching from afar
Monday to Friday from 6.30 am to 9.30 am , then again from 3.15PM to 6.30 pm, borderling gridlock caused by commuters, add an event or two, perhaps a bit of sunshine, couple of car crashes , couple of festivals, rallyes, concerts, throw in inevitable road works onto the roads of a country with 70 plus million people living in a space bout the same size as KS , Bank holidays, School holidays, more than 24 hours of sun or rain or snow and the UK grinds to a halt.

+between 08.15 and 18.00 Monday to Friday this place is a ghost town, plus on Saturdays most don't get up until noon and on Sundays they don't go out the front door!!;)bugging in is definitely the thing to do here.
if you want a full time job in this location you have to commute 50, 60or even 80 miles each day, might not sound much to an American but on our roads that takes 2-4hours every day.
if there is a major road accident on the main road or the power goes down and they cant get fuel.....remember they all drive until the fuel light comes on BEFORE they even think about getting fuel, they'll never make it home again.

Bugging out works if you see where things are going before they get there. Wait until everyone else is trying to get out and you'll have to hunker down a while.

I've seen this played out many times with hurricanes. You usually have ample time to evacuate if you are paying attention.

Personally, I think IN is the way to go.

Though, in a way, I can see having an outpost readied if you have means to get there.....but after the fact, ya know? I'll have at least enough stuff to survive where I'm at for a year minimum. The thought has crossed my mind about having a super isolated location to go to if my primary plans somehow fail due to unforeseen circumstances. There are places available around 40 acres for $10K.

One could build a pretty neato stocked up safe house as a back up plan....something to think about anyways.

I wish I could find 40 acres that cheap anywhere near here! I’d like to have a backup plan, and a place to camp.

I wish I could buy any land for that price around here, even small bits go for double or treble that price.

seems like all the "major arteries" can and will be clogged even if something small happens, don't think it would be different here, maybe smaller but still..

Here is an example of the total chaos that befalls the UK every time the sun comes out, total chaos on both road and rail due to ONE small rail engineering project going on.
https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/9...ns-latest-Brighton-Southern-Rail-Bank-Holiday

Even locally here total chaos caused by one jumper from a viaduct near here sees the main north south trunk roads close.
they always do engineering work on the railways on bank holidays and over Christmas, same as they do the road works over the summer holidays, never fails!
