Paper. The ability to keep records of stories and information has allowed us to advance further and faster than we would have otherwise imo. Imagine how much more knowledge would have been lost without it.

i love books or anything to read.

The wheel... it has been serving mankind for thousands of years, and we still rely heavily upon it today. Carts, chariots, wagons, bicycles, automobiles, trucks, trains, aircraft, motorcycles, skateboards, etc. Think how BORING life would be without the wheel... no dirt biking or skateboarding, lol. gaah

Another notable invention would be the lever & fulcrum... ;)

The printing press. With it, the good book was placed into the hands of average folks ushering in the reformation and bringing Europe and the rest of the world out of the dark ages.

Toilet paper on a roll. Oh? Are we supposed to be serious? I would call it a toss-up between fire and the wheel. We didn't really invent fire but learning how to control it and how to make it at will was a huge advancement. The wheel speaks for itself.

I would also throw written language in there.

I agree however, I think it was Socrates who was opposed to teaching reading/writing to common folks. His claim was that folks would abandon exercising their memory skills and we would be "dumbed down" so to speak. (Those weren't his words - I'm paraphrasing.) I still think that's an interesting take on it - but sure do appreciate reading and writing and learning through the written word.

Best invention: Nature
Best human invention: tools

Imagine if we lost electrical power for a significant amount of time. Google down. YouTube down. Nobody would know how to do anything anymore. Can you imagine trying to figure out how to remove the lens over your car's taillight to replace the bulb without Google showing you the steps? We'd have a lot more people driving around with red duct tape taillights, that's for sure.

Fire. without fire, 99% of everything would be impossible!
Fire was not invented, it was discovered, but the control of fire was a great thing. The ability to make fire with sticks/drills or stones was an invention.

The steam engine.

Electric was discovered, Mr. Tesla invented the three phase motor.
In the 21 Century it is Space X.

I see your point, but I learned most of what I know from men/women who did not use Google & taught that to my children.

I will go with the plow.

It allowed mankind to grow enough food to feed ourselves and still have time to invent other things like a written language that was used by bean counters to track which jars of grain belonged to who.

Language allowed knowledge to surpass time and space. Prior to written language we had be in the presence of teachers. Written language allows us to learn from people we never met and share knowledge with people in the future.

But the plow and productive farming is what fot the snowball rolling.

The plow.

While this entire episode of Connections is a must watch for a prepper skip to 27:00 to hear about the plow.
