My chickens are beginning to lay. No lights, no heat. I have some how ended up with hens that take their break during late summer. I like it.

Ours aren't really doing terrible. But I hatch batches each year, and throw them in. I don't bother butchering old hens. Just butcher roosters when there's too many. So laying ages of the hens are all over the place. Will get a couple dozen eggs a day at least in spring/summer. Lately it's been between 9 and a dozen a day.

We had dinner with friends last week, and one mentioned this was one of her favorite days of the year. After this she knows she is going to have one more minute of sunlight every day.

We had our company Christmas lunch Friday and we got to go into work two hours later than normal.

For us, sunrise was at 7:30a and sunset is at 4:00p.

Sort of likewise, except today sunrise here was at 8:05 am and sunset will be 4:15 pm. But it's already dark out now (at 2:50 pm) because we are having a major, ongoing rain storm.

I got a good laugh from seeing the "Affectional" in your post. I needed that laugh and I'm going to borrow that word from you. I have already been cranky for the past month and have been looking forward to today knowing that from tomorrow onwards we'll start getting increasingly more light each day again. I'm especially looking forward to June 21st and the nearly 19 hours of daily light (that's including the twilight that we get before sunrise and after sunset).

Some of them were REALLY WILD, and most were highly memorable. Open bar, great food, willing women!

There are two houses in my neighborhood where there have been parties on this day. I know that one of them has not had a party since the pandemic, but they are having one today. I've been invited many times, but I have only gone a couple of times.

Glad the days are getting longer....I am using up batteries in my headlamp. I work two hours after sunset and it is only 6:45.
Can't wait for those 10 o'clock at night bright Alpen glow.
