Hay Prices?

Looking around on the internet, in Iowa I'm seeing $4 to $6 for small squares of grass or alfalfa/grass mixed hay, up to $7 for good alfalfa. Big squares and round bales are $130 to $200/ton depending on quality and condition.

I don’t know your area but I know it’s predicted to only get worse. Especially with all the water issues. We weren’t able to cut any of our fields this “winter”. Neither was our neighbors. Unless irrigation is allowed we are going to be in big trouble sooner than later.

Last fall I asked a cousin who delivers big truck loads of hay, he quoted me $13.50 for horse bails. That was up from about $11.50 this time a year ago. I don't know all the prices for everyone around here but those are the prices he sells to the various stores and ranches he delivers to.
Our horse feed pellets went from about $130/1500lbs to $145/1500lbs delivered in the last year. They claim the price should be stable this year as they have contracts for their suppliers but there is no way to know due to everything else and fuel prices going up.
Man, California sucks.
My brother bales 500 to 1000 small squares of brome grass and canary grass hay every year and sells it to local horsemen. He sells it for $3/bale if the buyer comes and takes it off the rack so my brother doesnt have to put it in his barn and then load it back on a truck for transport.
Hay will likely be less in the summer here, because there's fewer cattle left in this area and pastures will be green. But if the drought gets worse, that could change...
North Utah here - I'm seeing anywhere between $12-16 here. Weird thing, Utahns don't use Craigslist for buying/selling things locally, they use a local site: classifieds.ksl.com . You'll find lots of hay options there in the cheaper end of the range!
Here in NE Florida/SE Georgia squares of horse hay are $7.30 for coastal. Alfalfa is $13.50 but wife says her mare doesn’t do enough work to need it.
26.00$ for 100# square bales of bermuda! 18$ this time last year!! These are from Arizona, can get Texas hay (weeds) cheaper!!

Whoa. How much does a 4x4x8 weigh? 200 bucks will get you a ton or more here...
I know someone who sold garbage hay from last summer a week ago. Small rolls, 4'x5' of weedy unfertilized hay, $30 a roll. I wouldn't feed that stuff to a critter I hated!
Last October I paid $30 for big 6'x5's, well fertilized bahia (by big, they weighed about 1600lbs. It was from my cousin's place 2miles down the road. I saw him put out lime and fertilize it twice last year.

I know nothing about bahia - pretty much everything here is alfalfa, brome grass, or a mix of the two. But 1600 pounds of anything for $30 is cheeeeeaaaap. Cornstalk stover sells for that much here...
I saw this in town yesterday, $6 for square bales. This is last years hay so it's lost 30% of it's nutrients. Which is why they wrote:
"Livestock, Decoration, Landscape" on the sign. In other words, garbage hay.

$30 up from $26 for 100# square bales of bermuda. Will be going higher quickly so I'm sticking up!!
