Personally, I like to go with local nurseries for many reasons:

1. They'll have varieties that are only proven to do well in your area.
2. They'll have knowledge of how to best care for them.
3. No shipping (and no chance of damage in shipping).
4. You see what you get before you buy.
5. Immediate recourse if a bad product.
6. Fosters smaller businesses.
7. Can often get "freebies" if a loyal customer.
8. Can wheel and deal a bit more, especially if buying a lot. (I'm the kind of guy that despises paying retail for ANYTHING, and I rarely do).
