I live in Austin Texas, and have read a little about prepping, and over the years have bought supplies to be ready for a disaster. I figured it is time to really learn more about this subject and soak up some knowledge from people in the community. I went to a soccer game in Turkey with my brother when we were both under 10 years old. A riot broke out in the stadium. People were throwing chairs, hitting each other with bricks, and the police were beating people in the head with batons, and that is probably the first time I realized that things can be totally calm 1 minute, and then everything just goes into chaos.

Howdy Chaplips, and welcome to the forum. Inside these electronic walls you will find some real characters, funny stories, but mostly a world of useful information on just about anything you can think of concerning prepping.
Feel free to add to a conversation, start a thread, or just as a question. Only thing we ask here of our members is to be courteous. It's okay to disagree, but use a civil tongue.
Again, welcome to the forum and have fun.

howdy from another Texan .... and welcome to the forum and family...there's quiet a few knowledgeable folks here that'll gladly tell ya what you need to know,or at least point ya in the right direction and/or give ya a good idea or 2..and by all means jump right on in with any replies you have on a topic.and start new topics if/when needed...

Welcome...sorry been working out of town in the big city of Ft. Worth this week. Please accept my late welcome.

P.S. Typical pitch match in Turkey, them Turk's sure love that round ball.

I'm surprised you're set up in Austin if you're a prepper. Nothing wrong with the city, but it leans pretty left. Thoughts?

Thanks for welcoming me everyone.

I am new at the prepping, so I mostly have weapons, water, and food. I haven't really reached a stage where I have my own house, or garden. I live in the Austin area because I really love working in the tech world, and it isn't super expensive compared to other tech cities. It is surprisingly very left (they have sections of highway that are cleaned by the Atheist Association of Austin) for Texas. Seems like every where you walk near a campus people are asking "Do you have a minute for gay rights, feminism, abortion, etc" A lot of people around here do have their own chickens if they have a house, and have a garden because they are trying to be healthier, so in a shtf scenario, they will be more self sufficient, and probably won't need a lot of help. There are lots of bodies of water around here if I need to filter water for drinking if things really break down, and most people around here don't own guns, so I am not worried about having my survival supplies taken by desperate people.

I still want to start canning my own food, because its unlikely that I would leave the city if tshtf because it would just be too chaotic

I have never been hunting despite the fact that I live in Texas, but I have been reading about whitetail deer, and plan to go deer hunting when it is the right season.

Not a good day to be in TX :( 5 cops shot dead in Dallas by an organised group of body armour wearing blacks sniping at police, they claim to have left bombs all over Dallas.
