We lucked out last year with a nice rainfall amount during the summer months. I did water the garden but not like years of past. I do remember about 8 or so years ago when it was so dry out pastures were turning brown. Walking on the grass and you heard the crunching sound it was so dry. We had to pump water out to them. It was not fun.
Being so close to the water tablet does mean we can not have root cellars. Trust me when I say I would love one. And we can not have a traditional ice house on our creeks and atreams. Waters just not cold enough to store your milk and butter. Yes, the heat and humidity levels can be a challange, but if there is a will, there is a way. If your like us, we don't turn the a/c on till it really gets hot and just open windows. Canning lids and rings tend to rust after a few years of storage. As long as you have a good seal and it's not rusted thru you are ok. I have been known to can my milk and butter from Betsey Lou. Haven't had a problem with doing it that way, but her milk does not freeze well. If your into drying foods, get an attachment for your food sealer. That way you can store in mason jars and suck out all the air in the jars. It helps!
