I'm a normal guy, Travelling Man, working professional. And, I am a new, closet prepper. Shame about the "closet" part.

My friends and family think I am crazy for stocking up on food and ammunition (even when I remind them about the LA Riots, Katrina, and other disasters), so I am here for advice and encouragement on what else I can do to make sure that I am part of the 1% that will have their acts together when "it" (whatever that may be) finally does happen.

I am an American who woke up one morning to the realization that I am absolutely terrified of my government, and that they do not care about anyone. We serve them, or they will punish us. Saying any of that IRL would probably get you put on some sort of list. What happened to liberty?

So after Katrina, I started thinking about what I would do if stranded like that, then years-later I woke up to the Gestapo in Washington and my eyes were finally open.

howdy from a texan .... and welcome to the forum and family...there's quiet a few knowledgeable folks here that'll gladly tell ya what you need to know,or at least point ya in the right direction and/or give ya a good idea or 2..and by all means jump right on in with any replies you have on a topic.and start new topics if/when needed....

Thanks! I've started digging in and what I thought I knew about prepping (little as it was) has been turned upside-down. :)

While my Administration is working tirelessly to avert national tragedies, every American shares a responsibility to be prepared.

When our Nation faces crisis, we respond with unmatched determination and resilience. Let us honor the strength our people show in times of adversity by preparing ourselves, our neighbors, our schools, and our workplaces before disaster strikes.

Hi and welcome to DPF from Finland...you ain't alone with relatives thinking prepping is crazy.
don't care..I don't..we prep and perhaps we are somewhat ready when something happens :)

Welcome from another southerner. I am curious as to what has been turned upside down for you. Prepping is different things to different people. What you see here is only information. It is up to you what you will use and what doesn't work for you. And yes, there's a LOT here!

I was one of those guns and ammo preppers, but all of this information has made me start over from scratch.

A little overwhelming at first, but I am starting to get my brain wrapped around it.

;) Well, I don't have any guns or ammo but I have lots and lots of food.

My best advice for prepping is simple. Try and become as self-sufficient as you can.

Water - Try and have a replenishable (and realistic) water source. Marching to a lake a mile away, each day, is NOT realistic, for example.

Food - Fruit trees, a garden, small livestock (like rabbits and chickens, that can be kept in most cities), etc. Again, replenishable is the key.

Power - The trickiest, but either have ways to provide it and/or non-powered solutions to these problems.

Defense - If bugging in, you need PEOPLE. No way around it. Another benefit of a group...specializations and different skillsets. Another bonus (having someone guard you while you sleep!). Whether you agree or not, you need guns. You don't need to be Rambo, but at least some rifles, shotguns, pistols, etc. Don't have to buy a $1500 AR-15, but some basic home defense weapons, etc.
