Reposting because I want to delete my old account.

Hello,
I am from Maryland and I am a Biological Sciences Sophomore in college.
My boyfriend and I started preparing about a year ago. Just buying lots of rice, lentils, and ibprofen at first.

Recently we moved from a rural area to a large city and decided to ramp up our supplies so we would not have to interact with the high population in our area for resources.

I came to this forum after searching "prepper forums" as we would love to talk with other preppers on the best places to get supplies, and even learn some tips we hadnt considered.

At this point we have 6 months of rice, lentils, various dried beans, crisco, powdered whey protein, cat food, firstaid supplies, and we have gas masks on the way.

Warm Welcome from the Arizona valley folks. USA

howdy from a Texan .... and welcome to the forum and family...there's quite a few knowledgeable folks here that'll gladly tell ya what you need to know,or at least point ya in the right direction and/or give ya a good idea or 2..and by all means jump right on in with any replies you have on a topic

Welcome! I have to admit I do have the items in your list, but those are not my go to foods, at least at this time. I like rice, but since my hunny doesn't, I don't make it often. Hunny is more of a meat and potatoes man. Honestly, I think he could eat mashed potatoes every meal. If you both like what you have stocked up on then good. I would still add in basic items that would be considered long term like flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pepper, and seasonings. The list can be much greater! Start a garden if you can, if in an apartment, container growing is possible. You would probably be surprised what you can grow on the back patio.

We got some iodized salt and I want to add some seasonings as well. Luckily we both like rice and already eat a ton. We arent stocking on perishable foods like meat or veggies right now because we live in an urban area between DC and Baltimore. The go plan if **** hits the fan is to load up my car and get to my family member's farm closer to the center of the country. Their nearest neighbor is 2 miles away and they have plenty of land for growing.

Until moving to this city just 2 weeks ago I have been gardening my entire life with my mom. We are now in an apartment and I've got 4 large pots for potatos, beans and herbs just for easy availability until GO time comes.

Hello from Germany, keep up the good prepping, your list sounds good. Take the time to sit down and look at every individual thing in your apartment. Put those things on a list which you could or would not like to live without. Make a priority of 1, 2 or 3 to each item. Buy those with the priority of 1 first and stock as much as you can afford. Go to the P2 and P3 accordingly. Watch this forum for the things others stock and ask yourself or them why. Decide if it fits your plans and follow or change your plans. Practice daily SOMETHING/ANYTHING which has to do with survival/fishing/hunting/sewing/repairs/reading/watching videos, etc. You will never learn everything totally, but you must learn a little bit about everything and every facet of survival. If you do not understand something, read up or Google it so long the internet is not censored. Do something everyday which scares you, it will make you stronger. Do something every week different, it will make you harder to follow. Do something different every month, it will show you that you can adapt to changing situations. Do something different every year, to learn a new skill for the future. Teach someone all the things you have learned, this will show you if you have learned it correctly yourself if they can also do it correctly. Only by teaching others can you check your own skill levels. Live free, GP

I would honestly also like to add potassium chloride to the supply. Americans already dont eat nearly as much potassium as we need, and it isnt in any of the food we have stocked up. Also ive heard it tastes very similar to sodium salt, but mire savory
Potatoes, sweet potatoes, beets, spinach and bananas are all good sources. I take potassium pills every day, and they are hard to swallow, so I chew them up first and then wash that down with water. It is salty tasting, and not really unpleasant tasting.

Low salt potato chips, sweet potato chips and unsweetened banana chips would be some non-perishable sources for your preps.

I still remember the day in biochemistry forty years ago that we studied the "Sodium-Potassium Pump" and a light went on in my head.

Your body requires potassium in order to eliminate sodium.

Granny took those potassium pills too. I never thought of having her chew them up. I quartered those big green pills up for her to swallow. . . Now I am wondering. They may have been the big orange pills. Whichever, they both had to be quartered.

If you look in the right places, you can find how to make a plastic explosive from potassium chloride and calcium hypochlorate with vaseline...careful tho, it is right sensitive to shocks and friction...GP
