Homesteaded way up in Maine for 5 years or so. Somehow got sucked back into the rat race, back when I was too young and restless. 46 now and Recently got married to a woman who also has a previous homesteading life.

We decided it’s time to get back to it FOR GOOD! so we’re now looking around for property.

Figured I’d just poke my head in and say hi!

Hey CountryGuy. We’re in NJ for work right now. We have considered going back to ME, but we are also looking in PA, upstate NY and have looked around down in TN/KY too. Just depends on what we can find.

Family has an old apple farm out in Spingville, PA and we looked around there a little. But it’s pricey.

probably still a little close to Scranton which will keeps costs up. Further west and or north from there you'd likely find it cheaper. Our taxes are quit a bit better than NJ, other than our gas taxes which are nuts. But our firearm laws are far and away better than either NY or NJ, assuming that is of concern to you. I love parts of TN & KY but I also really liked NH, VT and ME but PA is home and we live in the Mrs hometown and would likely take a train load of dynamite to blast her and the kids out of here.

Nice. I was raised in Gardiner. Reside in Michigan now.
 
My father's family was from Maine. I haven't been there since I was very young. My Great Grandfather was actually in the Border Patrol or whatever version it was back then. I believe they are all buried in Presque Isle. I have always wanted to visit.

Yeah I’d say it was only about 45 minutes from Scranton. Guns laws are definitely a concern and is one of the reasons I’m just a little hesitant on NY. NJ isn’t even an option.

If you happen to see a little fixer upper on a few acres out your way let me know. We wouldn’t mind being out that way.

Beautiful up that way. I considered relocating up there when I was in Maine, but even as rustic as I was already living, it seemed a little too hard core even for me. Lol. But if I ever wanted to live Alaska-like in the lower 48, that’s where I would go.

Yeah, the northern regions of Maine are quite remote. We used to travel through a little town on the way to Moosehead Lake.
