Relative noob to prepping. Grew up on a 450 acre dairy farm, have some trade and construction skills, and hunted a lot (mostly small game but some deer). Now a surgical subspecialist back home in Northeast TN.

Bought a lot of lower AR receivers and interchangeable Glock 9 pre POTUS election. Have 11 acres of partially functional land (too hilly but has a runoff pond at least and I have 2 wells, one filtered and one not) Now trying to figure out how to prioritize prepping for the future and protecting my family while paying off debt aggressively.

E.G. Generators or solar panels to drive my wells if SHTF, some small livestock, more ammo and finish my AR builds, move to a bigger piece of property with more functional land. Water stores, food stores. Do I really need extended water stores if I have 2 deep wells and find a way to keep them pumping (can back up filter my pond) and save room not storing water? What is realistic ? What should I do first??

Any suggestions appreciated! That was a lot of info and thoughts! Sorry!

And not sure I am doing this thread right!

I would go with solar panels,if the idiots ever do go nuclear well water will still be safe with fallout the pond I wouldn't trust for livestock, moving water would be better in my opinion, and what to do first if I was able I would want a secluded property and build a house with a basement,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Have a basement. In the country but not secluded.

Would you have the secluded to bug out to or as your primary?

Solar so don't have to worry about fuel acquisition I assume?

Thanks so much!

Howdy from out in west Texas. Welcome to the site.

Yeah, you're probably covered as far as with your water. How deep are your wells, and what size casing do they have? Depending on those two items will tell how hard/easy it will be to get water out without power. Our well is 200' with a 6" casing, so even if we could only get half a gallon at a time, with a rope & 'bucket', we'd still be ok. There's better ways to do it, of course.

You're starting with thinking about the most important issue, water. That's a great thing. Food sustainability and security round up my top three. Everything else is gravy. You notice I said food sustainability. Having a stockpile of canned goods is great, but what do you do when it runs out? Learning to produce your own, through many different ways, is real important. What if something big does happen and the local wallmart is looted and empty, with no replenishment coming? 90% of the population doesn't have a clue how to forage, hunt or grow anything. The last thing, security, sounds like you're allready thinking about that. Keeping what you work hard for to feed your family is likely to be difficult.
Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for all the input!

Random question. Any thoughts on a dual sport bike for survival and occasional daily use. Have a truck. Doing some research and thinking Suzuki DR 400 or Kawasaki KLR 650.

Something that can take a trail and mountain but highway when needed. Wondering if it's too big for what I would want though. Maybe should put this in a separate thread and move on from intro though. Thanks guys!
