Hi, I'm a mum from Ireland and we are just starting to get into prepping. We are a mum & dad and 10yr old son. We don't have any special skills apart from the average everyday ones but we are busy learning. To be honest we feel a bit silly and maybe a bit paranoid but are coming round to thinking that it would be silly NOT to prep. It will be a new adventure for us.

Glad to meet you all :)

This Finn welcomes you all, don't feel silly, the more you prep, the safer you are.
my preps have saved me many times over when I was low on cash, when in school and the way this world goes, who knows.

you have questions? just ask, there are friendly people here :)

howdy from a Texan .... and welcome to the forum and family...there's quiet a few knowledgeable folks here that'll gladly tell ya what you need to know,or at least point ya in the right direction and/or give ya a good idea or 2..and by all means jump right on in with any replies you have on a topic.and start new topics if/when needed.

Hi, and welcome. I prep for multiple reasons, not 'the end of the world' or anything that dramatic. I like knowing that I have a pantry full of food if something happens to our supply chain. I've seen grocery stores stripped bare in twenty four hours ahead of a storm. I also get to eat much healthier food, that I grew and preserved and know what chemicals and preservatives went, or didn't, into it. I also can find drinking water, and safely purify it if the tap dosent work one day. I have multiple ways to filter water now. As far as security, just watch the news and see if you don't agree that the police aren't capable of stopping crime. I like knowing that I can protect myself well if someone tries to hurt us or take the supplies I've built up. All these things are common sense to me. Food, water and security are the three big things that any father or parent should want for their kids and family. If anyone thinks this is weird or crazy then I don't think enough of them to care about their opinion. Good luck in your learning here and elsewhere.

Thank you all so much for your great welcome, we really appreciate it.

And yes, you are so right 'Silent Earth', my mum and grandmothers always had several months of food and home medical supplies on had. When I was a child we were usually snowed in for several weeks over the winter (I grew the countryside). But the weather has become so mild these last 20 years that no-one bothers to store anymore.

I visited Eire some time ago to meet up with some preppers from Limerick, They were refurbishing and repairing long abandoned Peat stores and Firewood stores so they could bring that aspect of self reliance back. Plus they were adding micro wind turbines and PV panels. Off Grid living is rather popular in Eire.
