Hi folks,

My name is Craig . I am in my mid 30s and come from The North of Scotland where I live with my family and a few animals.

We live out in the countryside away from all the populated areas. We have an old house (used to be a school house back in 1870's ) which sits on just over an acre of land, with lots of farmland and little pockets of woodland around us in all directions with the sea about 3 miles away.

We have in the past kept and looked after: Ducks, chickens, geese, guinea fowl, goats, pot bellied pigs, pigeons as well as the local fauna that come around. At the moment I am building up our egg layers and table birds and we are planning to get a goat or 2 for milk but that will be once we have sorted all the yards out. We have our dogs and ferrets also. Just finished building our workshop and hopefully will get started on the smithy asap.

I am very keen on anything to do with the outdoors, for me its certainly a way of life. I like, what is now termed as "Bushcraft", which for me was "field and woodcraft" growing up and was taught to hunt, fish, light fires etc from an early age. I see it as complimenting my prepping which again started when I was young.

I also love to make things whether it be from wood, metal, leather and if I haven't got a tool to help me do a job I will do my best to make one for the job.

For me prepping is a continuation and refining of the way we have always lived ( semi self reliant) as well as being as ready as best we can for any unknow circumstances in the future. I want my wife and kids as well as myself to have the skills in our hands to be able to cope with anything and to make it so that we have a good fighting chance should hard times come upon us in any form. I also want to be able to make the transition to be completely self reliant easier should it ever come to that and want to be able to pass on the knowledge to others of the same ilk who want and are willing to learn.

I hope to learn new things from you folks and am more than happy to share what I know or help out in any way I can.

Look forwards to seeing you all on the forum.

All the best.

Sounds like you already have the right mindset and skills. Welcome, and I look forward to hearing about some of your ideas.
