Hello, my name is Rio (uh, that's not a song reference; my name really is Rio). Single guy, totally new to this (both to prepping and to this website). I split my time between my permanent home in Chicago and Pattaya, Thailand, where I am trying to get situated due to the slightly lower cost of living and real estate (available farmland) and expat friendly environment. I am here looking for everything: new friends, acquaintances, tips, advice, leads, information, 'how-to's...everything.
Thanks!

howdy from a Texan .... and welcome to the forum and family...there's quiet a few knowledgeable folks here that'll gladly tell ya what you need to know,or at least point ya in the right direction and/or give ya a good idea or 2..and by all means jump right on in with any replies you have on a topic.and start new topics if/when needed.

Welcome, Rio. Thanks for joining. I'm sure you'll find a lot of good info here, and please feel free to share anything that you have learned with us too. This is a friendly group of people and we're all open to discussion.

I don't know a lot about Pattaya, Thailand, but I imagine that like Chicago and every other place on Earth, it poses it's own unique challenge to being prepared, including what to be prepared FOR. Again, welcome to DPF.

Welcome. I bet a few of us are curious about what you're planning in Thailand.
What am I planning for? Or what I am planning to do/ what are my preparations? Question 1 is easy: the country floods almost every year, disrupting supply chains, sending people into a panic. Also, I don't what the international news coverage is like, but we've also been living under military rule for almost a month. Nobody really knows what happens next. Concerning the latter: I consider being here part of my prepping. Despite the current political situation, Thailand is looking pretty good in terms of a "bug out" location: largely agrarian society, cheap meds available without prescriptions (so I am able to stockpile antibiotics and such), stable climate (it's hot and muggy, but I don't freeze to death in winter like I would in Chicago without electricity.

I did leave a rather ambiguous question. I guess I mean your preparations. I don't know everything going on, but I do know there's trouble in those parts. Do you have a stay strategy or a leave strategy? I don't know how much you want to keep to yourself, so if you don't want to answer everything, most of us get it here. Are you coastal or inland?
