I have 8 dehydrators and most of the time something is being dried. my favourite is soup starter dry everything i want in my soup and store them in quart canning jars which before I seal them with my vacuum a sealer attachment I put one whole bay leaf on top for seasoning and the bay leaf helps keep things fresh

I do the same, Marla...but then I had too many canning jars. I had alot of empty number 10 cans, so I ordered lids for them. I put 3 canning jars of dried in a gallon ziplock with an oxygen absorber and put in a number 10 can. They stack easier. I love soup starter this time of year. Saves me time and money

I vacuum seal mine in bags with the Food Saver and throw in a 5 gallon food grade bucket. Love dehydrating and having them ready to go, especially on busy days.

I am curious about what is in your soup starter? I avoid chemicals, especially MSG, so a good flavored soup starter would be great to have instead. I have used Mrs. Grass once in a while, but it is full of chemical and lots of salt.

I would think at least the following things would be included: onions, celery, garlic and ?

I have dehydrated vegetables, but put them in separate jars.

I have some cans of dehydrated carrots. I put some in a coffee grinder and turned it into powder so that it could just be added to soup and cook up easier, while adding some nutritional value and maybe flavor.

I use the stock from meat I cook in the pressure cooker. After I brown the meat I drain the fat and then add water and bring to pressure. I don't season the broth at all and I don't cook meat with added onions or celery. The stock is just unseasoned beef stock and it keeps well frozen. When I want to make soup I usually sauté onions and celery in olive oil and add that to the beef stock. I then add the other ingredients and season to taste. If I make gravy there is no stock to save.

Soup starter....a variety of dehydrated veg. You can add a seasoning packet to your liking. Also some bouillon cubes. If you don't like bouillon cubes, just package without it and add your own stock and meat.
Look at the ones in the grocery store at crazy prices. They're on the top shelf above the canned soups. Usually you see dehydrated veg, powdered bouillon, some beans or lentils and maybe some pasta. A small bag for $4.99. Ha! Make your own!
Take your fav soup recipe and substitute all the "wet" or "fresh" ingredients as much as you can with powdered or dehydrated or freeze dried.

Thank you, Amish Heart.
