How would you get illegal immigrants to go home?

I was thinking about this and came to a few conclusions. If I was POTUS and wanted to encourage illegals to go home, what would I do? I think the first thing I would do would be to make an announcement that immigrants are welcome here, BUT they have to do it the legal way. I would make the process more friendly and would give first consideration to those who have already started the process legally. I would announce that IF you were an illegal immigrant, you would have to register at a local Sec. of State as an illegal immigrant. Your case would be started at that point and you would be entered into the system as 'awaiting legal status'. That basically means nothing, except that you have made an attempt to enter legally. I would give immigrants a 90 day window to register. After that point, I would announce that IF you are caught by law enforcement (for any reason) as being illegal and you did not register, you would be deported without being able to take your belongings. You'd get a free ride to the nearest border and your belongings and property would go up for auction and the proceeds would go into the government SS system.

I'd pour resources into the immigrant court system to get lots of investigators and judges onboard to get these cases processed. If an immigrant had a nasty criminal record they would be deported. The investigators and judges would be left to sort that all out, keeping in mind the amount of immigrants that would be allowed to stay b/c I think there would need to be annual limits on how many immigrants we could handle as a nation.

I'm not sure how the system is currently set up, but I'd require the immigrant to be proficient in ENGLISH. If they weren't currently, they'd have to provide proof of passing a basic english test, including reading, writing, and speaking within a specified amount of time. If you want to stay here, you need to capitulate to our ways. I also would require the immigrant to hold a job. There would be no freebies to any illegal provided by the government. If you are part of a family where one adult works and the other cares for the kids, then all of the family has to go through the process and the family would have to be self sustainable if only one adult holds a job. Ideally, the family would go through the process as one case.

If an illegal immigrant came to the conclusion that they would not pass the investigation needed to stay, they would have the 90 days to pack their stuff and go home. They would get the opportunity to at least take their stuff with them. They would have to go through the proper channels to make this happen, also starting at the Sec of State office. There would have to be agreements between leaders of other countries to make sure the process was well received and ran smoothly. I'm sure a proficient POTUS would be able to make that happen.

I would also put much more pressure on anyone who hired illegals. Currently an I-9 is required on every employee as proof of citizenship. Many companies who pay cash don't go through the proper steps or require this. Even many of those who pay above the table don't enforce the I-9 requirement. Massive penalties should be imposed on employers who hire illegals. I really don't want to be punitive to illegals or to employers, but this IS a national problem and it needs to be solved. It's not just illegals from Mexico I'm thinking about here either.

I'm just thinking there's got to be a way to get illegals to go home on their own without having to round them all up and ship them out. I'd be interested to hear other ideas.....

Stop giving them free stuff. No amnesty for any illegal. If they are caught they should be immediately jailed and sent back where they came from no court date and no release in the USA.
Any company that hires an illegal should be fined and the owners and management should be subject to arrest. If they continue to hire illegals the company should be shut down.
Start at the schools and arrest all illegals. Make life for the illegal invaders as hard as possible.
Just because a kid is born on American soil should not make them a US citizen. At least one parent must be a legal citizen.
We are being invaded and it must stop. Illegals should have NO rights in America. They should all fear the law will catch them and they will suffer the consequences.

Your heart is in the right place, but think about it. This country is a thousand times better than their own. If they were cut off completely from all government assistance it would still be 999 times better than where they came from. They will NEVER leave voluntarily. The opportunity alone would make you want to stay.

I agree, but I think it needs to be a process of some sort. This problem didn't happen overnight (although it certainly hasn't gotten any better) so it's not going to get solved overnight or get solved with only one solution. There has to be several solutions working together to actually solve the problem once and for all. First you have to stop the immigration.....which Trump did pretty well. Then, you have to deal with the problem that's already here.

I still think there's got to be a way to make them leave voluntarily, I just don't know exactly what it is. Clearly there has to be bad consequences for staying here illegally, but what would that be? What we have in place now certainly isn't working. I think it's prudent to note that many Americans don't want to be the bully and just kick anyone out who is here illegally. I am not entirely against that, but there are situations where that might not be the best solution. There are some who've been here illegally for their whole lives. Throwing them back in their own countries (and they may not even know which one that is) at a moments notice is not very humane. I think.......what if that was me? What if I was born here illegally and I've never lived anywhere else? What would be the best way to handle that situation? I just think there could be a humane way to do it and that's why I think each case should be looked at individually. What would Jesus do?

Illegal is illegal. Humanity does not enter into it. If they were brought here as a baby they are still illegal. It's their parents fault not ours.

I don't seem to have a problem separating the humanity from the legality. As Backlash said, illegal is illegal. Being here illegally they are stealing from me and every other legal American citizen. They are stealing jobs. They are stealing benefits. They are stealing education. The list goes on and on. The consequence is to be sent back, immediately, and if the trip is harsh, so be it. If some got hurt along the way, well then don't try to come here illegally.

Maybe we should ask Cuba or North Korea how they handle illegal immigration?

Any change would have to start with sealing our borders, both northern and southern. I think it would take more than just a wall.
Only once all illegal entry was stopped, then start gathering all illegals and deporting them. Just across our southern border no matter where they originally came from.
When found here illegally they would lose any assets they had and would be deported with just the clothes on their backs. No attempt would be made to keep families together. Deport as soon as found no matter where they were found.
Once illegals living here saw that happening they would want to self-deport and by doing that allow them to take their possessions with them. They could obviously keep their family together that way also. It would be a big incentive to self-deport.
Once that job was mostly done then transfer all illegals in our prison system to the country they came from and turn them over to the authorities in that country.

Fine them $50,000 for illegal entry (adults get the fine for any minors in their party) and then create work camps where they can be housed while building the wall, once they have worked off their fine (at $15/hr) they can be returned home. All illegal visitors will have their bio-metric data collected and recorded to identify repeat offenders, fines double. After 1 illegal entry they cannot ever receive a green card or visa into this country. Men to one camp, women to another camp, and children to a third camp. If kids commit a crime they are separated from the parents. If parents commit a crime they are separated from their families. First illegals will work on labor farms to feed themselves. Others will raise chickens or rabbits. Any excess will be sold to State or federal prisons to provide other needs for the labor farms.

Chain gangs will do road repair, road side maintenance, and other work that can be devised. The first 30 days and the last 30 days will be in solitary. They want to come here to work we'll provide work. Unpaid.

Any court hearings will happen as they will be available, not wandering free around the country. If they don't want to work, those days don't count as good time. If they cause problems time is added or good time lost. This makes it unlikely that family members will be deported at the same time. No communication will be allowed between family members. No children will be eligible for deportation till one parent is deported.

Self deporters are allowed to leave, unless they are arrested first. Saying, okay I'll leave, won't cut it.

Look at the DMZ and how it is configured in some locations. IF you get past the mines, snipers, machine gun nests and survive, you get 5 years minimum at hard labor. Second offense results in execution. Thats my opinion. Come here legally as MY ancestors did and meet the requirements they had to.
