collected enough of these berries this year to make just under 50 jars of jam. I find these berries all over the Rocky Mountains of B.C. And north west US states. Other types of huckleberries can be found along the coast of the pacific north west. In my area elevation 3200 feet I start finding them middle of July and start finding them higher elevations beginning of August to end of September. I collect the black huckleberry type that are high in vitamin C and good for making jams. The red huckleberry type I've heard of people using for fish bait in streams and eating. I unfortunately never got any pictures this year but are easy to find on google. Hope this helps people to get out and find this tasty resource. Beware of the Bears while picking as they love these berries.

We don't really have any wild huckleberries except out and in east Texas but we sure do have a ton of blackberries. Good score on all that huckleberry jam! I pick the blackberries when they come in season, which is around March and April. Then make a bunch of preserves, jelly and pie filling. There is a honey hole about a half mile from our place where they grow along a cow pasture fence. Not many know about that spot cause there are no roads. :)

Those little honey holes that not many people know about are great. The blackberries unfortunately don't grow wild in the area I live. I miss when I went to school on Vancouver Island where they grow everywhere.

I just bottle 5 gallons of blackberry wine today. It is one of my favorite flavors. I’ve never seen a huckleberry before but would ferment some in a heartbeat.
