Howdy!
As the title states, i purchased a bike with a plan (dream) to get this back to a state it COULD be possibly used in a bug out situation or recon etc after SHTF.

Its a 1990 Honda Dominator (NX650) dual purpose bike.

Plans are to restore back to original and just leave it in the shed. Hardest thing i will endure will be getting all this stuff to our BOL.

Thanks guys, it was the right price so I snapped it up. And from the original owner.
Bike has only 72000kms which is low for its age.

Plans are to fix the little things that need fixing, bit of a general tidy up and a service. Thats all.

It will be stored in the garage and basically there if I ever need it.

To good of a bargin to pass up.

great idea.and good luck with it..one thing you might want to think aboutis you might want to get a rack or somptin so you can take it with you when it comes to you bug out vehicale.that way you'll have it as a back up if needed

Also do you have any firearms? Coz a way to hold them too.

Is there anyone else that may need a ride? Because you could always make up bit of an offroad sidecar. And that means it still doesn't have to stay attached. If no one else to carry. The at least it's somewhere to put stuff

yeah.or a small trailer of some sort..one that not only carry who ever and/or what ever.but it can be slept in as as well

I was just thinking the same thing. I'm looking at the pic and thinking of where am I going to put a 30.06 and my pistol. What about a trailer. You could really pimp that out in Prepper style.
I'm happy for you. Don't you just love when a plan comes together.
It looks in great shape, did you get maintenance records with it? I used to ride them years ago but the bike bug never bit me. However I do appreciate a nice piece of machinery.

You can see the Prepper Minds Working.
Necessity is the mother of invention.

im thinking along the lines of tandem axle camper.one axle towards the back, and one towards the front.and both axles set up like the covered wagons of the 1800's.in other words the front axle swivils left n right.and the tounge moves up n down..while the rear one is stationary..and motor cycle wheels and tires for it.that way if someone came along and saw the tire tracks..they'll prolly think.at least 3 cycles and who knows how many ppl..pluse you dont have to worry about the jack stands as long as it's parked on leavel enough ground..

They used to make a PVC scabbard that had brackets to bolt it on the triple trees . I'll try to see if I can find one. They placed your gun right down the outside of the fork leg.

I've seen things like that, I think they featured something like it on the Prepper Show awhile back. How does it run now?

Thank all for the ideas and comments!

The bike, as it sits runs great. As i mentioned it has low miles and the original owner basically left it to its own demise a few years back in a garage.
The air filter was a foam type and basically fell apart when i removed it and the oil is way over due for a change.
The engine itself is still tight, great compression and runs really smooth.

Ok, so my idea for the bike...

Basically, i sweet talked this off the owner for $200 (right place at the right time i guess)
Im going to give the bike a full service (plug, oil and air filter), lube all the cables. Also a full pressure clean.

It has a few broken things, nothing major just little bits i am able to source from eBay etc. My father (retired) was a professional automotive spray painter, so depending how far i want to go, i can even re spray it.

This, once done will basically be covered up and left in the garage. It will be there, ready to go if needed.

Other than that, WHEN the time comes and i do acquire land, it will be stored there.

I also thought, it would be a great recon tool post SHTF for getting in and out of places. With the long range fuel tank it will also be capable of decent distances.

Also to add, because of the low cost, i want to spend a s little as possible on it.

Im also going to adapt a GPS (spare that i have) onto the bars.

You hit the jackpot ! Man, I'd be riding that bike to work and back if I was younger. Better than sitting. But you really lucked out. Congrats man.

I think this is a kick ass idea, and for only $200.00! what a score!!
my only question is, if used for doing some recon are you going to change up your exhaust in an effort to lesson the noise?

Clyde It will come down to the situation at hand. If its mass riots..looting..shooting etc. It wont be getting uncovered.
If the dust has somewhat settled the recon on the bike for sure.
The twin pipes on the bike are factory pipes, they are heavily baffled. On idle you can hardy hear it running. Will be even quieter once the service is done.

I am jealous! lol

HVP, you should rig up a way to put the bike on your bug out trailer. ;)

I love the idea. Personally I'm going to be looking for a bike and a side car to use as a BOV. Another possibility could be to use it as a scout vehicle with a gunner in the side car

The Yellow one on the right may be an alternative. This is based on a regular 150cc motorcycle.

These are the two types of tricycles we have here.
