That is really funny. Nothing will get published, but it will be submitted in a project to a public school which can do anything they want with it. Sure, trust them with your secrets, what could go wrong?

Uh... Huh? Did I miss something there?

The original poster might do better to go find some of the idiots on that really bad prepper TV show a couple of years ago.

TexasFreedom,it wasn't that bad,it was entertaining ;)
I was thinking along the same path; public school, photos, locations etc,I'm not particularly paranoid, but submitting
your info in any "school projects" is like putting a large poster on your front door saying ;in case of emergency, brake the door, this place has supplies you want.

Jontte,

It really was that bad. OK, yes, it was 'entertaining', but only in how bad it was. The few episodes I saw (when traveling) were horribly inaccurate. I remember one episode, a guy built his 'house' out of shipping containers and claimed how it was 'bulletproof'. He shot the corner support with a 22 to demonstrate. Sure, the corner is heavy metal, but 99.9% if it is think 12ga steel. And most people won't be firing wimpy 22's.

My point is that there were vast inaccuracies at every turn in those episodes. And no prepper worth a lick would be on those shows.

people do strange things, say they are something they clearly don't are just for there 15 mins of fame...
remember they had plans on doing a "reality show" of my previous work,oh the bosses were cheering, but it soon died out as 90%
of those doing the job said "no thanks"...

Lauren, the first rule of prepping is don't talk about prepping. It's the same as the first rule of Fight Club, if you saw that movie. Because, you know, if people find out you have stuff, when TSHTF (that acronym means "when the **** hits the fan," meaning societal breakdown) they will come with guns and steal your stuff for themselves.

If preppers are a subculture, what culture are we "sub" to? Can you reply to that? A number of people here caught that one.

It is quite a good choice for a school paper, though. Lively and controversial. The most interesting thing to me about the situation is how fast it's booming. Prepper fiction is now huge and there are shows and sales and markets and lots of merchandizers were taken by surprise at the new great interest in food that can be stored for years in bulk. Ben's Red Mill says so openly in their catalog. It might be worth considering why more and more people think the society is likely to disintegrate and why the government won't be able to stop that.

Yeah, the subculture bit left me a little wrong-footed. Anyway, I think the OP was just on a fishing expedition, probably dropped that copy/paste piece on every site she could find. I doubt she will be back to read reactions.

She was just online... ;) you could be more supportive... Squirter..

yeah im just checking the answer. its not gonna be published, its just a presentation. also idk my teacher assigned us the "subculture" my bad if you guys don't like that term

negative.

I second that

"subculture"
"a cultural group within a larger culture, often having beliefs or interests at variance with those of the larger culture"

Jesus, that covers the whole world, no difference between the so-called subculture and that of a larger culture, whats it called when the larger culture acts like a subculture? Using the word subculture is nothing more than belittling one who is in disagreement. psycho doctors and there labels. Odd though, why are preppers classed as a subculture?

because the general public don't prep and look down on those that do as a trifle odd.

Here in the States we have the USGS, FEMA, US Military emergency Interstate Agencies such as EMAC, state and local communities are telling people to prep especially here on the West coast. It appears the only ones that have a problem are the K12 teachers and higher educational professors oh and the media. But yet these schools call us a subculture? Really, so, who really is the subculture here? ;)

here very few people have any kind of stored supplies, apart from ready meals in the fridge/freezer and they go to the store every couple of days and buy just enough for those couple of days, if you were to say you have a larder or a food storage area they would look at you as if you are mad, not that I tell anyone anything.
a lot of people eat out if the sights I see at the local pub(tavern) or farm shop café are anything to go by.

if you would like to be interviewed or have footage of you prepping I can use please contact me!
this is for a class project. it will not be published anywhere.

The episode that really stuck out to me was the Doris Day type lady who had bees and gardens and she was going to be sweet and nice and share so there was no need for her to have weapons of any type. I would give her about 5 minutes in a real SHTF situation.

sounds like my sister in law, she said she would share with the neighbours, I said i'd give her a month and then i'd come over and bury the/her body in the garden.

I guess we are a subculture by that definition! Most people trust the "just in time" food and supplies distribution system in this country. I can remember the truckers' strike, however.......... Most people now eat out HEAVILY: take out food and even markets like Wegmans have food all ready to cook: you could shop every week and just cook their stuff, and this type of sales really has taken over the store. Prepared food, ready to eat, or ready to cook and eat.

I tell you frankly, I don't tell anyone except now you guys about my 250 lbs of flour! Not even my wool-spinning group, and they have sheep. I'm baking up a storm, but yeah ------ it's a belief at variance with the larger culture not to trust the food supply.

Good point. I liked that prepper fiction book that had the neighborhood forming a committee, a ruling body really, and deciding that everyone should pool supplies. That meant the preppers were supposed to give all their stuff to the people who never cooked or had any food. Wow, bug-out time! I think they stayed for a time but firmly said no, and that people better not try ganging up on them.
I realized that would happen. The country people around us? They would be good. The McMansions just built to our farm's south, big houses on no land each? They would really be a problem.

same goes for medical supplies, thanks to my training,I know how to use them,in a bad spot,am I willing to treat every soul around me who don't prep, heck no.
atleast now, when my bro and his family moved closer,I'm able to help them and he's able to help me,he knows I have stuff, stuff I can use and the best part is,
as they moved into a bigger Place,I kinda got them to get food stuff (what we call Basic prepper stuff),so that's the first baby step for them ;)
