yeah.we heard on the news last night.that wal mart plans on closing a lot of stores...i wonder whats next..

Something is up with the markets, I'm hearing of huge numbers of bulk cargo ships and container ships being mothballed, and something called the Baltic Dry index has fell through the floor and my people tell me that is very important?

The baltic dry index is the truest indicator of the global economy, I've been monitoring the BDI for some time now, most of it is the direct result of china. We have a yard in Portland that houses thousands of these containers generally the yard is only a 1/4 full and generally it's old rusty containers, today it is over capacity with brand new or hardly used containers, they are having a hard time finding storage for these unused containers. This isn't a good sign!

Cheers Mav, my people said the BDI was important in commerce.

Very important! Goods being dispersed around the world is a good thing and the BDI is an indicator of that disbursement. Stored containers is not a good thing. That means that goods are not being disbursed, and the BDI is an indicator of that as well. So, the BDI is a very important indicator of world commerce, and perhaps the most important indicator of all economic indicators. IMHO

Looks like Iran is now rejoining the oil market with 1,000,000 barrels a day, I like the Iranians far more than the Saudis, they aint all mad Ayatollahs either, BUT this could drive oil under 20$ a barrel and that will really F*** up the social security welfare and pensions of the left wing Euro countries.

HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR, :) just heard a comedian on the radio talking about the US economic downturn, he said " America is heading into the doldrums again, when the US slips into recession and starts looking for a foreign country to blame and invade, unfortunately the US has already attacked all the big countries so they are planning a double pronged attack on Lapland because some Lap in a red costume keeps overflying US air space every December 25th and America has the right to protect its airspace" :)

Lowest Ever: The Baltic Dry Index Plunges To 394 As Global Trade Grinds To A Standstill
"The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) is an economic indicator issued daily by the London-based Baltic Exchange. Not restricted to Baltic Sea countries, the index provides “an assessment of the price of moving the major raw materials by sea. Taking in 23 shipping routes measured on a timecharter basis, the index coversHandysize, Supramax, Panamax, and Capesizedry bulkcarriers carrying a range of commodities including coal, iron oreand grain.”

A good informative article Hippo cheers for sharing, I must admit I had never heard of the BDI until a few days ago when another UK prepper raised it in discussion.

well, raider.it's been said before.and it'll be said again...here we go..now im thinking more then ever the economy is gonna go belly up more then ever..it's just a matter of when?

Ya, the stocks in the middle has collapsed, the US markets are closed Monday leaving Europe, south of our border and Asia to bear the brunt, US oil production is going to get nailed! Come Tuesday. I was reading that oil will fall to $10 a barrel. Russia has ordered some of its fighting in the Ukraine to curtail so it can focus and use the money for it's syrian excursions due to the plummeted oil prices. Things ain't looking good!
