Islamists Massacre Scores of Rice Farmers in Cold Blood in Northeast Nigeria

Militants from the Boko Haram Islamic terror group slit the throats of at least 70 farmers Saturday in Borno State, northeast Nigeria, according to local reports.

Eyewitnesses to the attack said the farmers “were rounded up and summarily slaughtered by the armed insurgents” just as residents of the state were voting to elect local government council officials for the first time in 13 years.

The former leader of the Borno Farmers Union, Hassan Zabarmari, said the farmers were working in rice fields in the Garin Kwashebe village of Borno State when members of the terror group attacked them.

“It was a sad incident that took place at about 11 a.m today,” Mr. Zabarmari said Saturday. “The farmers were attacked at the Garin-Kwashebe rice field, and according to reports reaching us since afternoon, about 40 of them were killed.”

The death toll of the massacre was initially reported as 43 victims but on Sunday, Borno State Gov. Babagana Umara Zulum adjusted the figure, noting that the number of confirmed dead had risen to 70.

According to Ahmed Satomi, a member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, the militants likely attacked the farmers in retaliation, because on Friday they had disarmed and arrested a Boko Haram gunman who had been tormenting them.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari extended his condolences to the victims of the attack and their families, describing the jihadist killings as “senseless.”

“I condemn the killing of our hardworking farmers by terrorists in Borno State. The entire country is hurt by these senseless killings,” Mr. Buhari said. “My thoughts are with their families in this time of grief. May their souls rest in peace.”

Buhari, who has faced criticism for failing to stop the ongoing Islamist terror attacks, said his government is providing the armed forces with all the support needed “to protect the country’s population and its territory.”

Boko Haram launched a bloody insurgency in 2009 in northeastern Nigeria, killing more than 30,000 people and displacing another 3 million in just over a decade, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Why dosent the UN get together and take them out?
You mean like in Mogadishu?
Genocide is a time honored tradition in Africa. 70 farmers? Phhhht. Not even a blip on the African Genocide Scale.
Every time the UN gets involved in African countries it turns to ****. Hate to say it, but the Africans made their bed and now they have to sleep in it. It's only when they do things that affect the rest of the world that anyone does anything. As long as they are slaughtering each other no other country will lift a finger because it never turns out well when they do.

BTW, I have personal experience in this. Refugees from the genocides in Uganda sought help from whites in Kenya because Uganda had spies all over Kenya killing refugees, and whites were less likely to be a Ugandan spy. This was shortly after Idi Amin left and was replaced by OBote, who just began another round of genocides against different people from Amin's genocides. (Amin was overthrown by Obote, who was overthrown by Okello, who was overthrown by Museveni who is still in charge and has had a relatively stable country under his leadership) Plus the Kenyans had their own problems and didn't give a ****.
I just happened to be one of those whites in Kenya and had a Ugandan refugee accost me on the streets of Nairobi and beg me for help. I was actually in a position to help because I had a good friend that worked with Kefa Swmpangi's Ugandan refugee program but when I tried to put him in touch with her, he got suspicious and walked away. Sempangi wrote a book about Amin's genocide called A Distant Grief. I highly recommend it. Sempangi was Idi Amin's public enemy #1 or close to it. Sempangi later rose to prominence in Uganda as a government minister under Museveni's presidency and tried to help put the country back together

Hang on. You want the UN to go in and kill all the muslims? And I get called the religious bigot?

I'm with Doc on this. If within a nation people are slaughtering each other, that nation needs to address it. As long as it won't spill over to other countries, they should stay out of it. Now if an individual wants to cross borders to go slaughter those who are doing the slaughtering (this time...), go ahead. Just be ready to face the laws of that nation without help. So, Brent, will you be packing your bags this week to go 'fix' this problem? Otherwise, you're being a hypocrite ("the UN needs to fix this, but I'm not going to do anything").

I didnt think the UN invaded Afghanistan I thought that was the US?
Invasion of another country is always an illegal act unless they have the permission of the government.

sometimes going in guns blazing- like something out of the Wild West- is not always the best policy, minding our own business and letting other countries evolve at their own rate may be the way to go.
but then "regime change" is very fashionable.
I truly believe the Syrian "civil " war would have been over long ago if foreign countries had kept out of it.

The US and UK attacked the Taliban. The UN's role came later. "Invasion" may not be the right word technically, but the UN was involved in the occupation of Afghanistan without the Taliban's "permission."

I do think there are times when it’s right for others to intervene. WWI and II were both worthwhile causes. I think when any group of civilians is being killed in mass its justified as well. What school did you study your Christianity at? The prejudiced and us compassionate kind?
All I really was doing was thinking is why do we have the UN peacekeeping forces if they don’t go in and attempt to stop these kinds of things?

we should send all the black Americans there for the reparation program.
The country of Liberia WAS reparations. It's called "Liberia" because it was founded as a country for liberated slaves. Don't blame us if your ancestors didn't take the opportunity to live in their own country...clearly they realized they would be better off staying here.

no doubt most govt agencies become large, expensive and inept with time. I believe it was a good idea in the beginning. They should let Elon Musk run it, he could straighten it out pretty quickly.

I thought the original reason they were there was because they thought Bin Laden was hiding there.
the Taliban werent the government were they?

They controlled most of Afghanistan, so they were the de facto government of Afghanistan and were recognized by several Muslim countries as the "official" government of Afghanistan.
And they were protecting Bin Laden.

But, because the UN didn't recognize them as the official government, then they can pretend that they are following "the rules."

See there is this little game the UN plays, and they are playing it with Taiwan right now. They recognize the Peoples Republic of China as the "official" government of Taiwan, even though the PRC has not actually governed Taiwan, EVER... The Republic of China (ROC) has been, not just the defacto government, but the actual government of Taiwan ever since the Japanese occupation of Taiwan ended after WWII. But the UN pretends the ROC doesn't even exist and that the PRC is the "legitimate" government of Taiwan. This is why Taiwan is excluded from the World Health Organization. The WHO claims that Taiwan is not really excluded because the PRC is a member and Taiwan is, by UN rules, a part of China, and the official government of China is the PRC.

So if the PRC invades Taiwan, by the UN's rules, that is fine and dandy since the Taiwan government doesn't officially exist.

just because some group "controls" an area dosent make it the government, ISIS had control of a large area but that didnt make them a government, they were just terrorist butchers.

They had formal diplomatic relations with several countries. And they GOVERNED Afghanistan. Yes, that makes them a "government."

Looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck.
